OVERVIEW

Lauren Services is looking for an Automation and Controls Engineer. Reporting to the Manager of Instrumentation & Controls, this position can be in either Calgary or Vancouver. ACCOUNTABILITIES

May include but are not limited to:

• Prepare the overall automation system design basis, determine I/O requirements, select PLC and HMI hardware, and create a plant-wide control system network architecture.
• Generate control and automation system design documents including State Flow Diagrams, Sequence Charts, Control Narratives, Shutdown Keys, Testing Document, I/O Lists, and other related documentation.
• Prepare detailed specifications for automation system hardware including PLC, HMI, I/O cards, network equipment, and other components of the automation system.
• Work closely with Process-Control Engineers to ensure Control Narrative accuracy and work towards eliminating gaps between Process and Controls.
• Work in multidisciplinary teams and collaborate with Process Engineers, Electrical Engineers, and Project Engineers to ensure all stakeholders are aligned on all aspects of the automation system design.
• Work closely with junior Engineers and Technologists to ensure accurate delivery of control and automation system engineering deliverables that meet project requirements and internal standards.
• Manage assigned scope of engineering work related to control and automation for projects of varying sizes. \
• Maintain complete project documentation

QUALIFICATIONS

• Automation & Controls Engineering Degree
• 6-10 years of work experience in designing, implementing, and commissioning control and automation systems
• Project Engineering experience is an asset
• Must be licensed or eligible to be licensed as a professional engineer in both BC and AB

SKILLS

• Experience working with PLCs, DCS, SCADA, and network systems
• Experience with Allen Bradley, Modicon, GE Fanuc
• Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel
• Knowledge and experience applying codes and standards such as CSA, API, ANSI and ISA would be an asset
• Able to work on multiple projects simultaneously
• Must possess engineering skills and be capable of interacting with all engineering disciplines
• Must be familiar with applicable codes, standards, and acceptable industry practices, etc.
• Must have excellent communication skills and be capable of interacting with peers, project managers, site managers and clients
• Must be capable of working in a team of engineers, designers and support personnel
• Familiarity with other aspects of project design including DBMs, project plans and scheduling in terms of electrical input would be an asset.
