• 10+ years of experience in the oil and gas industry.
• More than 5 years hands-on experience programming and commissioning Rockwell PLC systems.

• Experience configuring and maintaining third-party interfaces using Modbus, EtherNet/IP, and related protocols.
• Ability to perform loop checks, motor runs, and input/output point verification.
• Ability to troubleshoot functional disruptions and work independently without supervision.

The Role

Comco Controls is seeking a PLC / Control Systems Specialist to support lifecycle, commissioning, and control system improvement projects for a major oil and gas client in Calgary. Working within a client-controlled environment, this position provides technical support in Rockwell PLC systems, programming, commissioning, system interfaces, troubleshooting, testing, validation, and startup activities. The successful candidate must be able to complete assigned activities independently and without supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage industrial control system improvement and lifecycle projects through cross-functional coordination, including loading and storing system data backups.
• Program and commission Rockwell PLC control systems.
• Support new equipment installations and network additions in a greenfield environment, with an understanding of system interfaces.
• Program and test simple and complex control logic within a distributed control system environment.
• Configure and maintain third-party interfaces using Modbus, EtherNet/IP, and related protocols.
• Troubleshoot functional disruptions and help reduce system downtime.
• Support loop checks, motor runs, and verification of input/output points.
• Work with client control system specialists to resolve technical issues and support the drafting of Requests for Information.
• Stay current with advancements in control systems technology and integrate suitable solutions into existing architectures.
• Identify opportunities to improve business performance through emerging or evolving technologies.
• Drive collaboration, innovation, and improved system performance.
• Optimize control systems to improve performance, reliability, and efficiency, including upgrades and enhancements.
• Develop tools, methodologies, and work processes that improve system reliability and sustainment efficiency.
• Create and implement strategies to improve the security and resilience of the industrial control environment while supporting process control objectives.
• Participate in planning and executing cost-effective lifecycle management strategies that maintain system sustainability, security, and operational efficiency.
• Document completed tasks and lessons learned to support repeatable success on future projects.

Qualifications

• 10 or more years of experience in the oil and gas industry.
• More than 5 years of hands‑on experience programming and commissioning Rockwell PLC systems.
• Experience programming and testing simple and complex logic in a distributed control system environment.
• Experience configuring and maintaining third‑party interfaces using Modbus, EtherNet/IP, and related communication protocols.
• Ability to perform loop checks, motor runs, and input/output point verification.
• Ability to troubleshoot functional disruptions and work independently without supervision.

Additional Asset

• Equivalent experience with another control system manufacturer, such as Honeywell.

Work Schedule

This is a Calgary-based position working 10 hours per day, Monday to Friday. Some flexibility is required to work occasional Saturdays or Sundays for dynamic commissioning activities.
