Job summary

Kerry’s Place Autism Services in Toronto is seeking an Autism Support Assistant (Supported Living) to help maximize well-being and safety for individuals with ASD. You will coach social skills, support communication, and assist with daily activities in a collaborative team environment.

The role requires completed Human Services Diploma or PSW, solid communication, and the ability to physically support adults with ASD.

Qualifications

• Solid written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team.
• Experience in supporting people diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide coaching and support in social skills, communication and leisure activities.
• Provide solutions to barriers impacting quality of life and ensure Personal Outcomes for each individual.
• Administer medication as per procedure and follow Behavioral and Crisis Protocols.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with families, supports and community members.
• Collaborate with the team to maximize health and safety for individuals with ASD.

About the Role:

Reporting to the Manager Services and Supports, the Autism Support Assistant will provide services that maximize the health and safety and personal fulfillment of persons diagnosed with ASD. Responsibilities may include:

• Provide coaching and support in the areas of social skills, communication and leisure activities.
• Provide solutions to barriers impacting achievement of quality of life, ensuring Personal Outcomes are met for each individual
• Administer medication as per procedure.
• Follow Behavioral and Crisis Protocols as documented
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with families, supports and community members.

Education and Experience Qualifications:

• Completion of a Human Services Diploma from a recognized Community College or University or a Personal Support Worker certificate from a Community College or from a registered and Ministry approved Private Career College; OR
• Completion of Ontario Secondary School (or equivalent) and 1 year of related experience (preferably supporting people diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder).

Knowledge Requirements:

• Solid written and verbal communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

• Must have the ability to physically support adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
• Must have the ability to complete the Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certification, as well as perform the required physical techniques. Training will be provided at no cost.
• A valid Driver’s License, with a minimum G2 and access to a reliable vehicle.
• As a condition of employment, employees must be able to provide a Driver’s Abstract in good standing with fewer than three demerit points

No – Receive Pay in Lieu of Benefits up to 5% added to each pay

PT Irregular hours per week (Days/Evenings/Weekends/Overnights/Holidays/Rotational Schedule; Flexibility required as per Collective Agreement)

Pay Rate

$23.03 - $25.21 per hour (Autism Support Assistant); $22.03 - $24.12 per hour (Overnight Awake); $20.50 per hour (Overnight Sleep); Additional amount per hour for premium shifts as per Collective Agreement
