Qualifications

POSITION STATUS : Permanent Part-Time

HOURS OF WORK : PT Irregular hours per week (Days / Evening / Weekends / Overnight / Holidays; Flexibility required as per Collective Agreement)

HOURLY PAY RATE : $20.05 - $24.27 per hour (Autism Support Assistant); $22.21 - $23.22 per hour (Overnight Awake); Additional amount per hour for premium shifts as per Collective Agreement

About the Role :

Reporting to the Manager of Services and Supports, the Autism Support Assistant will provide services that maximize the health, safety, and personal fulfillment of persons diagnosed with ASD. Responsibilities may include:

• Providing coaching and support in social skills, communication, and leisure activities
• Providing solutions to barriers impacting achievement of quality of life, ensuring Personal Outcomes are met for each individual
• Administering medication as per procedure
• Following Behavioral and Crisis Protocols as documented
• Developing and maintaining positive relationships with families, supports, and community members

Education and Experience Qualifications :

• Completion of a Human Services Diploma from a recognized Community College or University or a Personal Support Worker certificate from a Community College or a registered and Ministry-approved Private Career College; OR
• Completion of Ontario Secondary School (or equivalent) and 1 year of related experience (preferably supporting people diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder)

Knowledge Requirements :

• Solid written and verbal communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements :

• Must have the ability to physically support children, youth, and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder
• Must have the ability to complete the Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certification, as well as perform the required physical techniques. Training will be provided at no cost
• A valid Driver’s License, with a minimum G2, and access to a reliable vehicle. Employees must be able to provide a Driver’s Abstract in good standing with fewer than three demerit points as a condition of employment
