Job summary

Porter Airlines is seeking an Aviation Internal Auditor to support aviation safety through validation of safety-critical processes and audits. The role reports to the Manager, System Quality Assurance and focuses on compliance with Transport Canada and IATA safety standards.

You will conduct audits, prepare plans and reports, and actively participate in Porter’s Safety Management System (SMS). Travel may be domestic and international as required by assignments.

Qualifications

  • Five years of experience as an aviation internal auditor or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with Transport Canada quality assurance requirements and IATA safety audits.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain restricted airport security clearance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication with keen attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in selection of audit projects based on safety risk objectives.
  • Conduct audits to evaluate effectiveness of safety-critical functions.
  • Evaluate safety-critical processes of alliance partners relevant to Porter.
  • Prepare audit plans, checklists, sampling plans and related documentation.
  • Develop detailed, evidence-based audit reports and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain confidentiality of safety reporting information and serve as Safety Ambassador.
  • Support Porter SMS by reporting hazards and incidents and promoting safety policy.

Job description

Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager, System Quality Assurance, this position supports aviation safety at Porter Airlines through focus on the effectiveness of safety critical processes.

Duties & Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Participate in the selection of audit projects based on corporate safety risk management objectives
  • Conduct audits to evaluate of the effectiveness of safety-critical functions within the operation;
  • Participate in the evaluation of the safety critical processes of alliance partners that are relevant to Porter aircraft
  • Preparation of audit plans, checklists, sampling plans and other audit documentation related to assigned audits
  • Develop detailed and evidence-based reports on all assigned audits
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and IATA operational safety standards relevant to a commercial air operator
  • Maintain the confidentiality of organizational safety reporting systems and information acquired in the course of audit duties
  • Serve as a Safety Ambassador and resource for all employees
  • Actively participate in Porter’s Safety Management System (SMS) including, reporting hazards and incidents encountered in daily operations; understanding, complying with and promoting the Company Safety Policy and Non-Punitive Reporting Policy
  • Any other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of Transport Canada requirements for quality assurance and the IATA operational safety audit program
  • Experience in the IOSA certification of a commercial air operator
  • Familiarity with commercial flight operations
  • A minimum of five years of experience as an aviation internal auditor
  • Excellent time management, written and verbal communication skills; keen attention to detail
  • Impartiality, integrity, tenacity, diplomacy and self-reliance are key attributes
  • Working knowledge of Safety Management Systems (SMS) and Safety Risk Management (SRM) principles
  • Recent qualification as an Aviation Internal Auditor and/or acceptable combination of education, training and/or related work experience
  • Ability to secure and maintain restricted airport security clearance
  • Must maintain a valid passport; must be able to travel domestically and internationally when required on short notice
