Internal Auditor (Internal Audit)

Payments Canada is a public purpose, non‑profit organization that operates payment systems and facilitates ecosystem collaboration across Canada.

Role Overview

The Auditor, Internal Audit supports the audit process in planning, execution, and delivery of internal and external audits, supporting the evolution of a best‑in‑class internal audit function. Responsibilities include contributing to audit strategy, planning, execution, coordination, and relationship management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the development of a 3-year risk‑based internal audit plan and overall internal audit strategy.
  • Ensure audit practices leverage industry best practices and external requirements for continual improvement.
  • Support change management initiatives and facilitate educational materials, workshops, and lessons‑learned activities.
  • Help plan and conduct internal audits with rigorous documentation per established methodology and standards.
  • Evaluate system designs and internal control frameworks, identifying opportunities for enhanced efficiency.
  • Support production of clear audit reports for senior management and monitor remediation of findings.
  • Provide logistical support and coordinate activities for external audits conducted by third‑party service providers.
  • Build strong relationships with data stewards, IT teams, and key stakeholders to understand core business processes and applications.
  • Draft key communications and negotiate buy‑in, resolve conflicts, and recommend on complex or ambiguous risks.
  • Provide guidance to audit staff to facilitate team success and collaboration.
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in business, finance, technology, or related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience as an internal or external auditor or consultant, demonstrating familiarity with IIA auditing standards.
  • Demonstrated relationship‑management skills and proven ability to influence.
  • Eligibility to complete background checks (criminal, credit, identity, employment, education).
Preferred
  • Experience with CSAE 3416, 3000 controls testing, and IFCR audits.
  • Knowledge of technology and security frameworks (e.g., SWIFT CSP, ISO 27001, ITIL).
  • Experience in operations support or Service Desk environments.
  • Relevant designations or certifications such as CPA, CIA, CISA, CISSP, ISO 27001 Lead Auditor.
  • Experience working with payments systems.

Salary Range
