The Corporate Communications Bureau is looking for an Audiovisual Technician to lead the delivery of high-quality audiovisual support for events and communications across the organization. From supporting senior leadership presentations to managing complex live and virtual productions, you will be trusted to provide expert technical guidance, troubleshoot issues under pressure, and help shape the future of audiovisual services within the OPP.

Please note: The successful candidate will be expected to work out of 777 Memorial Avenue, Orillia five (5) days a week.

There are two positions available:

  • Temporary, 12 months - Full Time, 36.25 hours per week
  • Temporary, 12 months - Irregular/On call, zero to 36.25 hours per week, depending on operational requirements, with no guaranteed hours.

About Us:

The Events and Public Relations Unit is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering official Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) events that support operational priorities while also upholding the organization's traditions, values, and proud heritage. This includes managing ceremonies on behalf of the Office of the Commissioner, awards presentations, bridge dedications, leadership events, and other significant organizational functions. The unit also coordinates the scheduling and support of ceremonial groups, including the Commissioner's Own Pipes and Drums, the Ceremonial Unit, and the OPP Chorus.

  • Provide expert audio and visual support for live, hybrid, and virtual events across the OPP.
  • Assist with modernization, operation, maintenance, and optimization of audiovisual technology in OPP facilities and event spaces.
  • Deliver professional support for leadership communications, ceremonies, conferences, training sessions, and public-facing events.
  • Advise stakeholders on audiovisual requirements, accessibility considerations, and technical solutions for successful event delivery.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues quickly to minimize disruptions during high-profile and time-sensitive events.
  • Conduct pre-event testing, equipment inspections, and risk assessments to ensure seamless event execution.
  • Develop and maintain audiovisual standards, procedures, and best practices to support consistent service delivery.
  • Research and recommend emerging technologies and enhancements to improve event quality and user experience.
Mandatory requirements
  • Ability to pass an OPP background/ security investigation.
  • Must hold a valid G-class driver's license
Audiovisual Expertise
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience operating, configuring, and troubleshooting a wide range of audiovisual equipment, systems, and technologies used in live, on-site, hybrid, and virtual event environments.
  • Expertise in audio, video, lighting, staging, switching, editing, graphics, teleprompting, livestreaming, and presentation support technologies.
  • Knowledge of accessibility requirements, tools, and best practices to ensure all participants can fully engage in events and presentations.
Strategic Thinking and Problem Solving
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate, identify, and resolve technical and operational challenges in fast-paced, high-profile event environments.
  • Ability to proactively anticipate and assess risks, develop contingency plans, and implement effective solutions under pressure to ensure uninterrupted event delivery.
Communication Skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally with diverse stakeholders, including members, event organizers, vendors, presenters, and senior leadership.
  • Ability to convey technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences while providing exceptional client service in high-pressure environments.
Advisory and Client Support
  • Ability to independently assess client needs, recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Initiative to proactively identify opportunities to improve the quality, consistency, and effectiveness of audiovisual support for OPP events.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a high standard of audiovisual support for the OPP while exercising sound judgment and initiative with minimal supervision.
