Job description

Reporting operationally to the Campus Director and functionally to the Senior Educational Administrator, the Instructor will deliver classes and workshops, engage in assessment and marking processes, and deliver student support and administrative tasks. Our instructors provide a high-quality learning experience for students and facilitate high-quality student outcomes in line with the Institute's module learning outcomes and graduate attributes. These responsibilities correlate to three core areas; quality of learning and teaching, pastoral care, which is the engagement of students; and collegial practice, which is building capacity within the organization via active participation with peers and colleagues.

Audio Engineering and Music Production Adjunct Instructor Qualifications:

  • Must have a certificate, diploma or degree and two years of related work experience OR 10 years of work experience in an occupation relevant to the course of instruction.

Audio Engineering and Music Production Adjunct Instructor Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide education that aligns with the SAE model of curricula and delivery.
  • Establish a classroom environment conducive to learning and student involvement, building a strong classroom community, and using positive communication to motivate students.
  • Effectively manage the learning environment by being punctual, starting classes on time, establishing clear guidelines, and enforcing college policies and procedures.
  • Effectively plan and prepare for classes, focusing on student success and the achievement of learning outcomes.
  • Develop, revise, and update instructional plans to meet course competencies and support learning objectives.
  • Maintain, update, manage, and ensure the accuracy of the content on the Learning Management System (Canvas) for all assigned courses.
  • Use the Learning Management System (Canvas) to effectively engage and communicate with students to support course and program learning outcomes.
  • Contribute to a learning culture by participating in academic advising, serving on curriculum committees, supporting campus events, and participating in various workshops and collegiate meetings.
  • If required, post attendance within one hour of the end of class.
  • Complete student assessments, including assignment of grades within one week of submission, and final grades within 48 hours of the end of the course.
  • Contact and advise students and/or inform the administration of students who are at risk for attendance and/or academics to help provide support, and coordinate with academic staff to effectively manage at-risk students.
  • Commitment to instructional and professional improvement; including maintaining instructor eligibility according to applicable provincial regulations and accrediting bodies.
  • Abide by all SAE policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Utilize successful teaching-learning methodologies to enhance learning and engage learners.
  • Average class attendance rate of 80% or higher.
  • Maintain instructor eligibility.
  • Create and follow annual faculty development plan.
  • Complete one professional growth development activity and one in-service development activity annually.
  • Utilize available teaching technologies.
  • Implement teaching technologies, including Canvas, to improve student engagement.
  • Student engagement, as measured by Canvas usage.
  • Update Canvas grade book within 48 hours after assessment posted.

Additional Information

Sitting and standing for long periods. Dexterity and coordination to handle files and single pieces of paper. Occasional lifting of items weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds, such as files, stacks of paper, equipment, and other materials. Moving from place to place within the organization. Minimal reaching for items above or below desk level. Strength, dexterity, coordination, and vision to use a keyboard and video display terminal for prolonged periods.
