The opportunity

The Associate Vice‑President, Financial Planning & Analysis (AVP, FP&A) will be responsible for overseeing the annual operating budgeting process and play a key role in shaping the finance team strategic cross‑functional relations within the business. Reporting the Senior Vice‑President, Finance & Capital Markets, this role will be critical in achieving the company’s profitability goals. Working closely with senior management and key stakeholders, the AVP, FP&A will drive organizational success by holding business units accountable to the strategic vision of the company.

Key responsibilities
  • Leading a role in the annual Business Planning and Budget cycle from start to finish, including coordination across all business units on requirements and maintenance of the overall planning calendar.
  • Develops a regular cadence of in‑year monthly forecasting.
  • Oversight of budgeting and financial planning processes and systems.
  • Working with Business Unit leads to build and/or maintain business planning models; run scenario analyses, annual budgets, and forecasts.
  • Development and oversight of project accounting/tracking that will meet audit requirements.
  • Analyzing and reporting financial and operational results to better understand company performance.
  • Develops and maintains dashboards and KPIs to support analysis of the business, including variances to plan, tracking of cost‑saving and revenue initiatives.
  • Communicating to senior management the reasons behind the product/department performance and results.
  • Providing detailed analysis and commentary on cost center results and reviewing with cost center owners.
  • Reviewing operations and recommending new productivity or cost‑saving initiatives.
  • Collaborates with finance leadership to improve processes and financial systems.
  • Evaluating previous budgets, expenditures to develop and implement future budgets.
  • Communicating results and recommendations to senior management for improvements that will lead to cost reduction, revenue generation and streamlining operations.
  • Provide insights to senior management around financial modelling, forecasts, and profitability.
  • Oversee payroll function including management of team and oversight of all statutory filings.
The ideal candidate will possess
  • A post‑secondary degree in finance or related field.
  • CPA designation required.
  • 5+ years’ financial services industry experience, FP&A experience, or relevant analytical experience working in a high‑growth environment.
  • Experience working with large companies with multiple operating divisions.
  • Experience in the wealth management or other regulated industry is a strong asset.
  • Highly proficient with Excel and BI tools.
  • Experience with enterprise systems and accounting software.
  • Proficiency with the MS Office suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to problem‑solve complex issues.
  • Solid business acumen with a practical mindset.
  • Demonstrate a high level of accountability, reliability, adaptability, and innovation in accomplishing day‑to‑day work and long‑term goals.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills; an ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively, across multiple mediums (in‑person, over the phone, and virtually); with the ability to engage with people at all levels.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong critical thinking skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Adaptable to a fast‑paced changing environment with a high tolerance for ambiguity; ability to manage large volume of competing priorities.
Conditions of employment

  • Must be able to travel anywhere within Canada, up to 0‑5% of the time.
