Job Description

Biovectra is recognized as a leader in the Contract Development and Manufacturing space of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients specializing in clinical to commercial scale production for microbial fermentation, synthetic small molecules including ADC, HPAPI, plasmid DNA, mRNA, LNP and sterile filling capabilities. With over 650 employees manufacturing at both the Windsor NS and Charlottetown PEI sites and supporting over 18/20 top pharma and biotech companies and 100+ active clients. Biovectra partners with biopharma and pharmaceutical companies to support the development of clinical or commercial API needs.

Reporting to the VP Business Unit Biovectra, the Associate Vice President (AVP) of Engineering and Maintenance at BioVectra is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing the strategic and operational aspects of the company's engineering and maintenance functions. This position ensures the reliability, efficiency, and compliance of BioVectra's facilities and equipment to support its operational goals for 8 facilities in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement engineering and maintenance strategies aligned with Biovectra's operational objectives. Provide oversight and guidance to a team of 7 managers and 100 support staff, focusing on the installation and maintenance of process and utility equipment essential for supporting the company's plans.

  • Operational Excellence: Ensure the reliable and efficient performance of process and utility equipment. Lead initiatives to minimize downtime and optimize overall plant performance. Collaborate with staff and departments to execute engineering and maintenance tasks effectively.

  • Project Management: Oversee capital projects, renovations, and upgrades to building systems, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards. Provide regular and accurate progress reports to the VP Business Unit, including evaluations of project progress, budget status, deliverables, and timelines.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), documentation, change controls, and training within the department. Represent the maintenance and engineering departments during regulatory and client audits, instilling confidence in the robustness of the team.

  • Team Development: Foster a culture of teamwork and performance, focusing on client and stakeholder satisfaction. Provide leadership, development, and performance management to the maintenance and engineering staff.

  • Communication: Proven ability to effectively engage, interact with, influence, and retain the confidence of senior executives and peers at the executive level (internal and external to the company)

  • Operations Technology: Oversee managing team responsible for manufacturing technology. Collaborating with Systems IT to align on program direction and equipment requirements.

  • Equipment Commissioning and Qualification: Overseeing and managing manufacturing equipment commissioning, qualification and requalification.

This role is an onsite role and will be based at our Prince Edward Island site or Windsor, Nova Scotia site.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field. Advanced degrees or professional certifications (e.g., PE, CFM, CHFM, LEED AP) are preferred

  • 10+ years of experience in facilities management, with 5+ years in a leadership role within a life science, medical, pharmaceutical, or research facility

  • Extensive knowledge of building operations, distribution systems, steam & chilled water production plants, and building systems commissioning and qualification. Proven management development and leadership skills, experience in identifying deferred maintenance and long-range project/financial planning, and strong oral and written communication skills are required

Preferred Attributes

  • Technical Proficiency: Knowledge of BMS computer-based systems and software applicable to physical plant operation. Experience in healthcare-related facilities strongly preferred.

  • Innovation and Sustainability: A customer-focused attitude and a track record of innovation in service, the use of management systems, and the implementation of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards, new technologies in mechanical systems, and utilities areas.

Additional Details

This job has a full time weekly schedule.The full-time equivalent pay range for this position is $174,163.00 - $272,130.00/yr CAD plus eligibility for bonus, stock and benefits. Our pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
