Reports To:

Manager, Underwriting

Work Arrangements:

You will work from your home office 100% of the time. You may be required to be in-person at our office in Waterloo, ON, or another assigned location within the Waterloo Region, on an as-needed basis. Sales-related roles may require travel based on the assignment.

The Opportunity:

Equitable is growing! We are looking for an Associate Underwriting Consultant to join our Individual Underwriting team. This position is critical to our success and offers a great opportunity to develop skills for the future at one of Waterloo Region’s Top Employers.

Responsibilities:
  1. Excellent negotiation skills
  2. Superior underwriting technical knowledge in both medical and financial underwriting
  3. Providing educational presentations to underwriting teams
  4. Training sessions for underwriters, including mentoring senior underwriters on large case financial concepts
  5. Understanding legalities of underwriting processes
  6. Assist Chief Underwriter on medical cases
  7. ECG Interpretations
  8. Assist with semi-annual technical underwriting audits
  9. Co-sign for all levels of underwriters
  10. Review fraudulent claims
  11. Handle rescissions from underwriting
  12. Serve as SME for underwriting projects
  13. Assist in planning and executing underwriting training days
  14. Promote a positive environment in the department
  15. Conduct competitive analysis and benchmarking
  16. Develop underwriting materials for RSM and advisors
  17. Update applications and forms regularly
  18. Support underwriting initiatives with business cases
Qualifications:
  1. Strong medical knowledge and analytical skills
  2. Excellent communication and team skills
  3. Proficiency in Windows, Word, Internet, and keyboarding
  4. Proactive, service-oriented, results-focused
  5. Accurate and timely processing skills
  6. Experience in medical consultation and risk assessment
  7. Project management skills including audits and self-development
  8. FLMI / FALU designation or working towards it
  9. Commitment to ongoing education and industry trends
