Job summary

McGovern Hurley LLP in North York is seeking an Associate, Tax to build expertise in corporate, trust, and partnership tax engagements while advancing toward the CPA designation. You'll work on compliance, advisory, and planning across diverse industries, gaining responsibility and client exposure from day one.

With a Hybrid model (two in-office days per week) and Thursdays dedicated to the Tax Advisory Group, you'll collaborate closely with a high-performing team, receive structured coaching,

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a Master of Accounting program, pursuing CPA designation.
  • Interest in public accounting, client engagement, and real-world exposure.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, with strong communication and organization.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review corporate, trust, and partnership tax returns with accuracy.
  • Support end-to-end tax compliance by organizing client financial data for filings.
  • Develop knowledge of the Canadian Income Tax Act and CRA guidance across clients.
  • File elections and documentation to support regulatory compliance and quality.
  • Conduct tax research and deliver practical, client-focused insights and summaries.
  • Analyze tax data to support broader advisory initiatives.

About You

As McGovern Hurley's next Associate, Tax, you'll do more than build your tax career - you'll build the expertise to become a trusted advisor. Your Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and review corporate, trust, and partnership tax returns acrossarange of complexity, delivering accuracy, precision, and exceptional client service.
  • Support end-to-end tax compliance engagements by gathering, organizing, andvalidatingclient financial information to ensureaccurate, complete, and CRA-compliant filings.
  • Build and apply strong technical knowledge of the Canadian Income Tax Act, CRA guidance, and evolving tax legislation across a diverse client portfolio.
  • Contribute to tax compliance and regulatory initiatives by preparing and filing election forms and other required documentation with a focus on quality and accuracy.
  • Drivetechnical excellence through in-depth tax research,identifyingrisks and delivering practical, client-focused insights, summaries, and recommendations.
  • Analyze financial, accounting, and tax data to generate meaningful insights that support compliance requirements and inform broader tax advisory initiatives.
What You Bring
  • Enrolled in a Master of Accounting program at an accredited post-secondary institution, with a commitment to pursing the CPA designation.
  • Passionate about public accounting, eager to learn, and excited to dive into real client engagement work, taking on new challenges with confidence.
  • Technically proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & Outlook) with a knack for picking up new tools and technology quickly.
  • Confident communicator with stronginterpersonalskills, ready to engage clients professionally and collaborate seamlessly with others.
  • Strong organizational and execution skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities and deadlines with confidence.
  • Demonstrated alignment with McGovern Hurley's values of collaboration, respect, accountability, integrity, and quality.
  • Proven experience in client- or customer-facing roles, engaging clients professionally and delivering a positive experience –a definite plus.
