UBC Okanagan is seeking an Associate Student Recruiter and Advisor, On-Campus, to plan, coordinate and implement on-campus recruiting and advising services for prospective domestic students, parents and counselors visiting virtually or in-person.

The role involves giving presentations, conducting group and one-on-one advising, and partnering with enrolment services to support admission to undergraduate programs on both campuses.

Job Summary

The purpose of this position is to plan, coordinate and implement a variety of effective and innovative on-campus recruiting and advising services and programs for prospective domestic students, their parents and counsellors visiting UBC's Okanagan campus virtually or in-person. This position regularly gives presentations and undertakes group and one-on-one advising to this effect.

This position provides recruitment programs and advising services for secondary and post-secondary school students, parents, educational advocates and counsellors in Canada for the purpose of encouraging qualified prospective students to seek admission to UBC. This position advises students with secondary and post-secondary credentials concerning UBC admission criteria and specific program requirements for admission to UBC undergraduate programs on both campuses. This position support the advancement of Indigenous peoples' human rights and UBC's commitment to reconciliation, as articulated and called for by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada. Foster access, success and representation at UBC of historically underserved, marginalized or excluded populations.

Organizational Status

Reports to the Manager, On-Campus Recruitment in terms of overall strategy and operations. The position works closely in collaboration with: (a) Student Recruiter-Advisors, Recruitment Marketing Prospective Student Engagement and Admissions staff on the Okanagan and Vancouver campuses of UBC, (b) other staff in UBC Enrolment Services, and (c) other on-campus units (i.e. Faculties, First Nations House of Learning, Indigenous Programs and Services, The Beyond Tomorrow Scholars Program, Centre for Accessibility, International Student Initiative) to support the recruitment, advising, admission and successful transition of students to UBC.

Work Performed

• Develops programs to encourage more prospective domestic students, their parents and counsellors to visit the UBC campuses in-person or explore our campuses virtually. Examples may include but are not limited to customized campus tours, live virtual campus tours, special events (virtual or in-person), sponsored trips for domestic student groups and/or counsellors.
• Develops, plans, and executes strategic special events, which involves event designing, promotion, facility logistics, liaising with internal/external partners, coordinating the involvement of staff / faculty, training and supervising student assistants, and post-event evaluation.
• Advises prospective domestic students and their families visiting the campus.
• Participates in coordinating the design and delivery of campus tours and special on-campus and virtual programs for counsellors.
• Assists in the hiring, training, supervision, and support of Student Ambassadors, Senior Student Ambassadors, co-op students and other student, clerical or event staff.
• Works closely with the Recruitment Marketing and Prospective Student Engagement team and ISI on-campus team to develop an innovative multi-media presentation for use in the campus tour program. May work with the Recruitment Marketing and Prospective Student Engagement team to develop web-based virtual tours for prospective students, and other communication products to promote campus tours and on-campus recruitment activities.
