Associate Counsel Salary: $131,283 - $154,454

Senior Associate Counsel Salary: $144,157 - $169,593

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel, the successful candidate is responsible for providing advice on a broad range of legal issues to the Police Services Board, York Regional Council, and related entities.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

• Provides risk management advice and strategies.
• Provides opinions and strategic legal advice on a variety of legal issues including commercial, contractual, and procurement matters.
• Drafts, negotiates, and reviews corporate commercial documents and contracts.
• Prepares and reviews reports to the York Regional Police Services Board and Regional Council.
• Negotiates with external agencies and municipal partners.
• Maintains current knowledge of developments in the law.
• Performs other duties as required.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• Successful completion of a University Degree in Law (L.L.B. or J.D.).
• Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
• Associate Counsel: 1-3 years of expertise in relevant legal areas.
• Senior Associate Counsel: Minimum 5 years of expertise in relevant legal areas.
• Demonstrated knowledge of corporate core competencies.
• Effective interpersonal and presentation skills.
• Proven analytical and decision-making skills.
• Experience advising on legal matters in the public sector is an asset.
