Job summary

First Nations University of Canada in Regina invites applicants for a full-time tenure-track appointment in Indigenous Studies. The appointment will normally be made at the rank of Assistant Professor, with consideration of appointment at Associate Professor depending on qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will teach five courses in the academic year, engage with Elders and communities, and contribute to curriculum development, research, mentorship, and service to the unit

Qualifications

• PhD in Indigenous Studies; ABD may be considered with a confirmed or anticipated completion date within two years of the appointment start date.
• Evidence of effective teaching or strong potential for teaching excellence.
• A record of, or clear potential for, research, scholarship, creative activity, or equivalent professional activity.
• Experience working with Indigenous communities, students, organizations, or knowledge systems.
• Demonstrated commitment to student success;
• Ability to contribute to the mission and academic priorities of First Nations University of Canada.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the full range of academic responsibilities associated with a faculty appointment, including teaching, research and scholarly activity, student mentorship, service to the academic unit and University, service to the broader profession, and service to Indigenous communities.

The position requires a demonstrated commitment to academic excellence, student success, and respectful engagement with Indigenous knowledges, communities, and ways of knowing.

Qualifications

Candidates should have:

• a PhD in Indigenous Studies; applicants who are ABD may be considered provided they have a confirmed or anticipated completion date within two years of the appointment start date. This requirement reflects the qualifications established for this position;
• evidence of effective teaching or strong potential for teaching excellence;
• a record of, or clear potential for, research, scholarship, creative activity, or equivalent professional activity;
• experience working with Indigenous communities, students, organizations, or knowledge systems;
• demonstrated commitment to student success; and
• ability to contribute to the mission and academic priorities of First Nations University of Canada.

For appointment at the Associate Professor level, candidates should normally have a completed PhD or other terminal degree and a stronger record of teaching, research and scholarly activity, service, and academic leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference may be given to candidates who have:

• experience teaching Indigenous students or working in Indigenous post-secondary education;
• experience with Indigenous knowledges, pedagogies, research methodologies, or community-engaged scholarship;
• experience developing curriculum relevant to Indigenous contexts;
• demonstrated service to Indigenous communities; and
• experience teaching in face-to-face, remote, hybrid, or distributed learning environments.

Rank and Salary

Rank and salary will be determined in accordance with the FNUniv/URFA Academic Collective Agreement and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will teach a total of five courses in the academic year. These courses include teaching various INDG topics (culture, history, and contemporary issues).
