Job description

About Us:

AltaML is a leading North American applied AI company with extensive experience in building and operationalizing AI software solutions.

We are a company like no other – we believe in making small bets, failing fast, and being better together. We are looking for creative problem-solvers who obsess about the customer to find wins across different industries.

We don’t hire for fit; we hire to add. We are looking for people who play our core values of being: Agile, Gritty Humble, and Happy. If you’re passionate about AI/ML, thrive in a dynamic environment, and want to work with a diverse team of wickedly smart people, we want to hear from you!

About the Role:

This opportunity is for current students looking for work experience in Winter 2027 (January - April).

As an Associate Product Manager you will work with the product team on a platform that real clients use every day.

A lot of your focus will be on research and user discovery. Finding out how people actually use our products, where they get stuck, and what that means for what we build next. What you find comes back to the team and informs real decisions. You will use AI and agentic tools throughout, the same way the rest of the team does.

This is a great opportunity for someone looking to grow their product management skills in a collaborative, fast-paced, and AI-driven environment, where you’ll help shape the future of how humans and agentic systems work together.

Office as a Resource & Participating Universities:

This opportunity is funded in partnership with Mitacs and therefore requires candidates to meet all eligibility criteria before being approved to hire. This role is currently open to anyone that is currently enrolled at the U of Alberta, U of Calgary (Masters Only), U Waterloo, U of Toronto, or Queens U. This role is based in Canada and will require you to occasionally work out of one of our offices in either Edmonton, Calgary, Toronto, and/or Waterloo. Please reach out if you have questions regarding your eligibility.

What You’ll Do:
  • Run user research and discovery. Talk to the people who use our products, sit in on real conversations, and find out where the friction actually is.
  • Help make vague things concrete. Chase down the details nobody wrote down.
Turn what you hear into something the team can use. Clear notes, a short summary, a write-up that helps someone make a decision.
  • Translate what you learn into execution. Clear user stories and requirements, simple wireframes or prototypes, and support through the testing and feedback cycles.
  • Build something rough and put it in front of a person. Use AI tooling to do it.
  • Help get releases out the door. Draft release notes, let clients know what has changed, and follow up with them afterward.
  • Share what you learned, including what you would do differently.
What You Bring:
  • You want to be part of a product team and you are passionate about creating loveable solutions for customers.
  • You like to get feedback early.
  • You know that good comes from iterating with real users on a meaningful problem.
  • You have used AI tooling like Claude and reach for it in your own work. It is how this team works.
  • Clear, confident communication and professionalism when engaging with teams and executives.
  • Understanding of the product lifecycle and SDLC, from concept through to launch and iteration.
