About the Role:

This opportunity is for current students seeking work experience in Fall 2025 (September - December). As an Associate Product Manager, you will assist in discovering, investigating, and building prototypes for new ideas that aim to elevate human potential through applied AI.

Build products with AltaML’s Venture Studio, which helps startups fast-track their journey from zero to one by providing technical expertise, managing operational details, and incorporating insights from our labs to deliver innovative AI products.

The product team is responsible for launching new AI products, evaluating ideas for their impact and feasibility, understanding customer pains, and identifying opportunities for AI integration to solve complex problems and differentiate in the market.

This role involves understanding customer needs, collaborating with technical teams, and helping develop product roadmaps, prototypes, and go-to-market strategies. If you have a strong desire to take ideas from concept to reality and make an impact, this role is for you.

Office & Participating Universities:

This position is open to students enrolled at U of Alberta, U of Calgary (Masters only), Mount Royal U, U Waterloo, U of Toronto, or Queens U. As a Mitacs-funded opportunity, please inquire about eligibility. The role is hybrid, with offices in Edmonton, Calgary, Toronto, and Waterloo.

What You'll Do:

• Conduct prospecting to reach new customers and set up discovery interviews, demos, and pilots
• Perform user discovery interviews to validate problems and opportunities
• Collaborate with developers to assess idea feasibility
• Identify opportunities to incorporate machine learning solutions
• Map out product roadmaps based on insights and technical input
• Engage pilot customers for testing prototypes
• Create hypotheses and validate value propositions and technical feasibility
• Work closely with dev teams, customers, and stakeholders to prioritize features
• Define and refine GTM strategies aligned with customer insights
• Research competitors to understand market positioning
• Develop pitch decks and presentations for stakeholders
• Help develop processes for idea evaluation and product growth, embracing data-driven decisions and continuous improvement

What You Bring:

• Currently pursuing a degree in business, marketing, CS, Engineering, Data Science, or related fields, with interest in delivering customer value
• Excellent communication skills
• Experience or aptitude for professional interactions, including with executive-level clients
• Proven entrepreneurial activity, initiative, and innovative thinking
• Ability to work effectively in diverse teams and perspectives

Bonus Points:

• Knowledge of machine learning/AI
• Experience in Engineering, Sales, UX/UI, Customer Support, Marketing, or Finance
