What you'll be doing

Under the direction of the Chief Investment Officer Portfolio Management and Research (PM&R) and reporting into a Senior Portfolio Manager, you will be an integral member of the Equity Portfolio Management team. You will assist in managing select Dividend Equity portfolios. You are expected to conduct independent company research and guide and challenge the research conducted by the Equity Research Team. You will adopt a team culture emphasizing continuous personal, team, and performance improvement. As part of a dynamic and collaborative team, you will share research insights with analysts and Portfolio Managers across all asset classes within CIBC Global Asset Management (GAM). You will be accountable for strong peer and benchmark-relative performance while adhering to investment guidelines and client objectives. Additionally, you will contribute to marketing and servicing efforts for both institutional and retail clients.

How you'll succeed

  • Portfolio Management Support: Generate financial models and thesis statements to capture mispriced alpha and maintain an accurate research platform with models and forward-looking estimates.
  • Investment Decisions: Make investment decisions based on disciplined fundamental research and risk-aware portfolio construction to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Risk Mitigation: Use portfolio construction and scenario analysis to define and adhere to parameters aligned with client objectives and guidelines.
  • Collaboration: Work with other asset teams and contribute to marketing and servicing efforts for institutional and retail clients.
  • Research Contribution: Support GAM equity funds by engaging with the PM&R equity team, sharing information, and challenging investment theses.
  • Influence Discussions: Use experience and pattern recognition to positively influence team discussions, increasing the likelihood of successful investment decisions.

Who you are

  • You hold a degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or Applied Sciences.
  • You have at least five years of relevant equity research and/or portfolio management experience.
  • You are familiar with quantitative tools used within a fundamental investment process.
  • A CFA designation is highly recommended; other professional designations are a plus.
  • You have experience in computer modeling and spreadsheet analysis.
  • You communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and can understand and explain complex issues.
  • You are committed to continuous personal and professional improvement.
  • You pay attention to detail and use critical thinking to inform decision-making.
  • You prioritize clients, engage purposefully, and go the extra mile.
