Job summary

RBC PH&N Investment Counsel, part of RBC Wealth Management, is seeking an Associate Portfolio Manager to join a professional team serving high-net-worth clients. You will collaborate with Investment Counsellors to tailor investment strategies for individuals, trusts, and foundations.

You will identify client needs, participate in meetings, and help manage portfolios in line with policy statements and risk controls, while expanding relationships and ensuring top-tier service.

Qualifications

  • University degree required in Economics and/or Business.
  • CFA designation required.
  • Minimum 3 years portfolio management experience.
  • Minimum 5 years investment industry experience.
  • Strong individual contributor and team player.
  • CFP designation and English/French fluency are a plus.
  • Marketing / Sales background and demonstrated presentation skills are beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively identify, investigate and resolve client inquiries with recommendations to Investment Counsellors.
  • Attend client meetings, including prospect and annual review meetings.
  • Maintain timely written, verbal and electronic communication with internal and external contacts.
  • Assist in implementing action plans and manage client portfolios for performance and service.
  • Monitor and rebalance portfolios per Investment Policy Statements and risk strategies.
  • Contribute to meeting team objectives by retaining and growing high net worth clients.
  • Develop client profiles with next steps to deepen relationships.
  • Input trades when required and address compliance and documentation.

What is the opportunity?

RBC PH&N Investment Counsel (“RBC PH&N IC”) is one of Canada’s leading boutique investment counselling firms with investment professionals nationwide acting exclusively for high-net-worth clients and small business owners. We provide clients with discretionary investment management and privileged access to the expertise of our RBC Wealth Management Services team which includes highly accredited lawyers, accountants, and financial planning specialists.

As an Associate Portfolio Manager, you are a key member of a professional team charged with building and managing a high performance investment counselling franchise, the Associate works with experienced Investment Counsellors to construct customized investment strategies for high net worth individuals, trust, and charitable foundations.

What will you do?
  • Proactively identify, investigate and resolve client inquiries and provide the Investment Counsellors with recommendations for resolution for complex situations
  • Attend client meetings as required, including prospect and annual review meetings
  • Proactively maintain timely written, verbal and electronic communication with other support groups internally and with external contacts
  • Assist in implementing action plans and proactively manage client portfolios to ensure best performance and service results for every client portfolio
  • Assist in monitoring and rebalancing portfolios to ensure they are managed consistently with current Investment Policy Statements and portfolio risk management strategies and policies
  • Contribute to meeting team objectives by retaining and growing the team’s high net worth customers
  • As an APM, you would assist in developing a profile for each client which would include next steps to increase and solidify the relationship
  • You will input trades where required, address compliance requirements and assist with ensuring all account documentation is completed

Must-have
  • University Degree in a related field ( Economics and/or Business )
  • CFA Designation ( Chartered Financial Analyst )
  • Minimum 3 years portfolio management experience
  • Minimum 5 years investment industry experience
  • Strong individual contributor and great team player/support
Nice-to-have
  • CFP Designation ( Certified Financial Planner )
  • Marketing / Sales Background
  • Demonstrated presentation skills
  • Fluency in English and French
