Description:

The Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto is seeking applications for the inaugural AbbVie Chair in Ethnodermatology . The successful candidate will either currently hold, or be eligible to hold, a full-time clinical faculty appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor in the Division of Dermatology, Department of Medicine, at the University of Toronto. The Chair term is five-years, renewable once for a second 5-year term. The tentative start date of this appointment is July 1, 2025or as mutually agreed upon.

The AbbVie Chair in Ethnodermatology was established with the purpose of advancing education and research in the area Ethnodermatology, an emerging field of dermatology that explores the intersection of dermatologic health, skin biology, ethno-racial diversity, and medical education for populations historically underserved/studied in the field of dermatology. The successful candidate will be a nationally recognized academic physician with expertise in clinical or basic science discovery; educational scholarship; or other areas of scholarship in the field of Ethnodermatology.

The chairholder will provide mentorship to medical learners across the spectrum of the clinical division with which they are associated but will also provide leadership and guidance for all faculty and trainees in developing practices that broaden capacity and knowledge in the field of Ethnodermatology.

The candidate will have demonstrated a record of excellence in academic productivity and leadership. Considera ti on will be given to the applicant’s record of scholarly ac ti vity (including grants, peer-reviewed publica ti ons, program development, collabora ti ons with organiza ti ons na ti onally and interna tionally, supervision of medical learners, graduate students and fellows) and contributions to their field. The Chair holder will also have a record of sustained excellence in teaching and mentorship. Additionally, they will bring with them strong administrative, collaborative leadership, and interpersonal skills.

The successful clinical academic candidate must hold an MD degree and have, or be eligible for, licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

The endowed chair will support academic activities of the chair holder, which may include salary support, research opera ti ons, and relevant educa ti onal events.
