We are seeking an Associate, Mortgage Investments to be responsible for the following key activities:

  • Analyze and structure competitive transactions for all mortgage product types, including land loans, cost to complete construction loans, revolving construction loans, servicing loans, inventory loans, and amortizing term loans;
  • Work closely with the origination department to prepare high-quality Term Sheets / Deal Summaries (loan applications) for Credit and Investor approval;
  • Assist the origination department to prepare and issue Letters of Intent to clients;
  • Build relationships with Borrowers to understand their needs and work with the origination department to ensure timely and efficient processing of transactions;
  • Work closely with the Underwriting and Portfolio Management team to ensure Term Sheets / Deal Summaries are complete and accurate;
  • Establish personal goals and action plans to support CSMC’s business objectives;
  • Keep abreast of changes within diverse industry sectors and proactively identify opportunities to improve the growth and development of assigned transactions.

What does the day-to-day involve?

  • Analyze a variety of commercial real estate transactions including office, retail, industrial, residential, hospitality, and land;
  • Complete detailed Term Sheets / Deal Summaries for submission and approval to Investors;
  • Correspond with originators, borrowers, mortgage and real estate brokers, and other industry professionals;
  • Perform modeling and quantitative analysis related to real estate developments and income-producing properties;
  • Review applicants’ creditworthiness by analyzing personal net worth statements, financial statements, and credit reports;
  • Identify risks and mitigants related to loan transactions and make recommendations;
  • Respond to Syndication for all Investor inquiries.

What we believe our ideal candidate will possess:

  • Post-secondary Degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Economics, or Finance with an educational focus on Real Estate or Land Development (required);
  • 3 or more years of related work experience in the real estate lending industry (required);
  • Strong personal commitment to professional development;
  • Good knowledge of Finance and a keen interest in the Canadian Real Estate Market;
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team skills;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Ability to work independently and a strong commitment to Borrower/Client service;
