Job description

The Associate ML Engineer at Manulife will play a vital role in developing analytics-enabled solutions within cross-functional project teams. This role involves managing assigned tasks, collaborating with senior team members to identify and access data sources, and documenting data using standard templates. The engineer will create tables and databases for data science projects under senior guidance, assist in coding solutions into production systems, and acquire data to measure solution effectiveness. The role requires using data querying tools to extract, transform, and stage data, analyzing datasets of moderate complexity, and communicating analytics to senior team members. The ideal candidate is curious, eager to learn, and committed to their career development, actively seeking coaching and incorporating feedback.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Manage data science infrastructure to streamline model development and deployment
  • Architecting, developing, optimizing and owning the deployment of ML functionalities into production systems
  • Design and evaluate new approaches for handling high-volume real-time data streams in an inferencing environment
  • Defining best practices for code, APIs, and frameworks that will lay the foundation for MLOps capabilities
  • Working closely with Infrastructure architects to design scalable and cost-effective solutions
  • Following Software Deployment and QA processes and MLOps best practices
  • Develop measurements and feedback systems
  • Mentor associates and peers on DevOps/MLOps best practice

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Math, Computer Science, Engineering; or equivalent work experience
  • Basic Working knowledge of programming languages and concepts (e.g. Java, C, SAS, SPSS, R, or Python)
  • Basic knowledge of data visualization tools such as Tableau, QlikView, PowerBI Basic knowledge of data transformation to support BI Reporting

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of common database querying languages such as SQL.
  • Capability of applying a systematic, structured approach to explore / navigate / mine massive amount of data, structured or un-structured, to uncover hidden patterns / insights.
  • Some working knowledge of relational database models (e.g. data vaulting techniques, rules tables).
  • Basic knowledge in distributed computing - Hadoop/ NoSQL/unstructured data
  • Basic understanding of different techniques and knowledge of machine learning algorithms.
  • Basic knowledge of AI toolkits. Familiarity with basic statistical tests, distributions, maximum likelihood estimators, statistical modelling techniques (regression, cluster / factor / principle components, decision tree, survival analysis, etc.)

Salary range is expected to be between

$60,900.00 CAD - $113,100.00 CAD
