Job description

The Company's Total Rewards package is at or above industry levels. The expected base salary range for this position is between 96,650.00 CAD - 126,886.00 CAD. Job related skills, experience, education, and location will be considered in setting actual starting base salary. In addition to your base salary and depending on job level, eligibility, and performance, a total package may include profit sharing, a short-term incentive and/or long-term incentives. Summary:

The SHE Associate Manager supports deployment of SC Johnson’s Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) management practices for multiple manufacturing sites in the Brantford, ON region to ensure compliance with local legal requirements and SCJ global standards. The role will work closely with the Director, North America Regional SHE to align SC Johnson’s overall safety, health and environmental strategies with site-level targets and objectives. This role also provides technical and strategic leadership to ensure site-specific processes associated with the management of high-hazard chemical processes are effectively deployed and maintained. Success depends on both technical SHE knowledge and developing “champions” within the site to drive day-to-day SHE ownership.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Supports SHE compliance assurance processes, such as compliance calendars and leader standard work, to enable compliance with applicable laws, permit authorizations, and company standards.
  2. Supports compliance with regulatory standards including metric generation, data interpretation, and process safety risk reduction opportunities.
  3. Deploys internal audit processes, including SHE-related GEMBA and behavior observations, to proactively identify potential SHE non-conformances.
  4. Partners with site stakeholders to ensure timely and effective closure of SHE-related corrective and preventive actions.
  5. Collaborates with engineering and maintenance teams to ensure inspections, testing, and preventive maintenance of SHE-critical equipment are defined and documented.
  6. Provides expertise to support external regulatory inspections related to safety, health, environmental, and fire protection matters.
  7. Champions incident investigations and ensures root cause corrective actions are effectively implemented.
  8. Maintains and deploys training processes to ensure safety, health, and environmental training is comprehensive and tracked.
  9. Serves as SHE representative for Management of Change reviews to evaluate hazards and impacts of business activity changes.
  10. Verifies data accuracy in SHE databases and analyzes data to identify trends related to injuries, environmental impacts, and SHE non-conformances.
  11. Drives injury reduction activities and promotes safety culture change.
  12. Supports employee safety and environmental teams and facilitates technical support for their activities.
  13. Partners with HR and medical teams for return-to-work programs.
  14. Manages onsite project activities in line with High-Hazard Work Standards.
  15. Provides input on SHE goals and budgets at the site level.

Required Skills / Experience / Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive SHE leadership experience in a global manufacturing setting.

Preferred Skills / Experience / Competencies:

  • Advanced degree in related disciplines.
  • Experience with high-hazard chemical process safety management standards (e.g., OSHA PSM, Seveso Directive).
  • Ability to foster SHE ownership among non-SHE champions.
  • Professional safety certifications (e.g., CSP, CRSP, CIH, CFPS, CHMM) or equivalent.
  • Leadership experience managing teams.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Project management skills for handling multiple projects.

Job Requirements:

  • Full-time office hours with occasional nights/weekends.
  • Up to 5% domestic travel.
  • Approximately 60% office work, 40% manufacturing environment.
  • Not eligible for remote work or relocation.
