WHAT YOU’LL DO

We are seeking a highly motivated Investment Associate to join our investment team. This is a generalist role with exposure to a broad set of investment strategies across asset classes. You will play an integral role in supporting the diversification and management of the Foundation’s portfolio and work closely with senior members of the team to source, evaluate and manage relationships with external managers. You will have a generalist mindset and bring a strong interest in and understanding of capital markets, including traditional and alternative investment strategies.

  • Support senior investment professionals in sourcing, screening, and underwriting new investment opportunities across investment strategies
  • Conduct detailed qualitative and quantitative manager due diligence on investment managers, including analysis of investment strategy, portfolio positioning, historical performance, and risk characteristics
  • Apply analytical frameworks to evaluate managers based on strategy, performance, organization, terms, underlying investments, and other key attributes
  • Prepare clear and concise investment memos and recommendations for internal investment committee review
  • Monitor existing manager relationships through regular performance reviews, update meetings, and ongoing research
  • Contribute to the development of analytical tools and models used to analyze both public and private market portfolios
  • Engage in broader portfolio construction and asset allocation discussions
  • Represent MFAM with external investment managers and industry stakeholders

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in investment research or investment management with exposure to public and/or private market strategies. Experience at a general partner, asset manager, investment bank (including sales and trading), or in manager research at a foundation, endowment, pension fund, sovereign wealth fund or similar institution is a strong asset
  • Undergraduate degree in finance or a related field
  • Progress toward CFA, CAIA, or FRM designation
  • Strong understanding of both traditional and alternative investment strategies, including public and private equity, fixed income, commodities, credit, hedge funds and trading oriented strategies
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with analytical programming tools (e.g. Python)
  • Exceptional analytical and organizational skills and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a performance-driven environment
  • Strong communication skills, including business writing and presentation
  • A willingness to travel for due diligence and manager engagement as required
