Job Description

Position Summary

We are presently seeking an Associate to join the Investment Portfolio Management Group’s – Public Markets team for a 12-month contract opportunity. As part of this dynamic team, you will work closely our investing Departments, particularly Active Equities (AE) and Capital Markets and Factoring Investing (CMF), and the broader TFM department to advance our mission to maximize the risk-adjusted returns of the Active Portfolios by ensuring that we have the best possible combination of active programs in the Fund and by acting as thought partners with the Investment Departments on investment strategy matters.

Department Summary

Office of the Chief Investment Officer (OCIO)

The Office of the Chief Investment Officer (“OCIO”) mandate is to enable the Chief Investment Officer (“CIO”) by providing the CIO with the necessary resources and expertise to perform the CIO’s accountabilities. OCIO consists of two groups: Investment Portfolio Management and Integrated Strategies.

Investment Portfolio Management (IPM)

The Investment Portfolio Management (“IPM”) group works on behalf of the CIO to maximize the returns of the Investment Portfolios at the targeted level of risk through providing dedicated support for each CIO-approved investment strategy, active portfolio design, investment signals, investment decision analysis and governance and communications.

We manage our portfolio of active strategies (“Active Portfolio”) via a mix of internal and external strategies to deliver incremental value-add returns through investment selection. Annually, the CIO reviews the mandate and performance of each investment strategy to refresh the Fund’s capital allocations as appropriate.

Role-specific Accountabilities

  • Supporting senior team members in the day-to-day activities for oversight of the Active Equities (AE) and Capital Markets and Factor Investing (CMF) investment programs including but not limited to relative value assessment, market conditions monitoring and capital usage optimization.
  • Playing a key role in the financial/statistical modeling, portfolio analysis, and portfolio construction work related to long-term strategic allocation and helping shape the risk-adjusted return of AE/CMF to align with the best total fund outcomes.
  • Support the active public market investment departments on special situations, projects, new opportunities and problem identification (if any) related to investment strategy.
  • Help drive the evaluation of AE and CMF investment programs for delivery against assumptions and objectives, including return on capital, short-term deployment budgets and Portfolio reviews.
  • Assist identifying emerging risks and opportunities in global markets and integrating insights into portfolio decision-making.
  • Engaging with external managers, market strategists, and research providers to gather insights relevant to macro-driven portfolio decisions.
  • Conducting macroeconomic and thematic investment analysis, and cross-asset strategy development.
  • Work flexibly across IPM to assist in activities that best support the CIO given prevailing market conditions.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience in investment management, trading, consulting or investment banking.
  • Proficiency in Python is required, with experience in data science and analytics being desirable.
  • Exemplary communication and presentation skills (oral and written).
  • Ability to work independently as well as to perform effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated Word and PowerPoint skills and advanced skills in Excel.
  • Direct deal or investment experience and exposure to public investments considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of/experience with active investment management in public market, active program allocation processes and financial mathematics is a plus.
  • Professional designation such as a CFA is considered an asset.
  • Exemplifies our Guiding Principles of integrity, partnership and high performance.
  • Enjoys being a part of a culture of excellence, is flexible and constantly strives to innovate.
