Job summary

Ontario Teachers' is seeking an Associate to analyze INR equity opportunities, build robust financial models, and support due diligence across global opportunities. You will work with our Toronto team, traveling internationally to collaborate with portfolio companies and external advisors, and present investment recommendations to senior management.

You'll contribute to financial modeling, risk analysis, and the preparation of valuations while coordinating with Analysts and portfolio company

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; CFA designation considered a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead financial modeling tools to analyze investment opportunities with Analysts;
  • Assist due diligence and incorporate findings into financial models;
  • Deliver high-quality analysis identifying value drivers and risks through sensitivity/scenario analysis;
  • Coordinate with external advisors/portfolio partners and meet timeline bids;
  • Prepare presentations, reports and investment recommendations for senior management and Board;
  • Review financial reports, budgets and board books for portfolio companies;
  • Work with portfolio company management to maintain models used for strategic analysis;
  • Support internal strategic projects and annual valuations.

Job description

The opportunity

As an Associate, you will have a key role in analyzing potential Infrastructure & Natural Resources "INR" equity investment opportunities, executing transactions and working with existing portfolio companies to craft strategy and implement value‑enhancing initiatives.

Who you'll work with

You will be joining our Toronto office, where you will work in a dynamic team-based environment, directly supporting senior team members across multiple sectors and geographic regions, with a focus on Metals & Mining. This is a chance to define and differentiate yourself as an investor and build strategic relationships within the global market.

INR consists of a team of over 60 highly-specialized private equity investment professionals, with offices in Toronto, London, Singapore, and an additional presence in Santiago, Chile.

Currently, INR leads a geographically diverse portfolio of approximately C$28 billion with assets in North America, South America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, and a target to grow to over $40 billion over the next 5 years.

The Natural Resources team (which this opportunity supports), targets exposure to commodities in the oil and gas, mining, agriculture, timberland, aquaculture, and other resource-based sectors to provide cash flow, inflation protection and diversification.

What you'll do
  • Lead all aspects of the construction and implementation of financial modeling tools to analyze investment opportunities, in conjunction with our Analysts;
  • Assist in the due diligence process and incorporate the findings into a financial model;
  • Deliver high-quality analysis which identifies key value drivers and financial risks through sensitivity and scenario analysis;
  • Coordinate and work closely with external advisors, consultants and partners and submit bids adhering to timelines;
  • Prepare presentations, reports, and investment recommendations to senior management and, where applicable, the Board of OTPP;
  • Review and analyze financial reports, budgets, board books and other information prepared by management of our portfolio companies;
  • Work with portfolio company management to maintain financial models that are used to analyze strategic issues and value the company;
  • Support internal strategic projects, and;
  • Support the preparation of internal annual valuations.
What you'll need
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience, preferably in investment banking, principal investing or corporate development within an operating business;
  • Bachelor's degree required, with the pursuit of a CFA designation considered a plus;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence others and comfort presenting to senior audiences;
  • Excellent analytical and quantitative skills and ability to perform in-depth analysis;
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities while remaining detail oriented;
  • A proactive attitude and drive toward action and results;
  • Advanced skills in Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Desire and willingness to travel internationally.
