Job summary

Zensurance, a leading Canadian InsurTech, seeks an Associate General Counsel & Privacy Officer to scale legal and privacy oversight across the business. You will partner with executives from Underwriting to IT, guiding compliant innovation and data governance in a fast-growing platform.

You will own privacy program design, PIAs, breach response, and regulatory engagements while advising on complex commercial matters.

Qualifications

• J.D./LL.B. with good standing in a Canadian common law society (e.g., Law Society of Ontario).
• 6–10+ years post-call experience in P&C insurance, fintech, or financial services.
• Deep familiarity with the Canadian insurance regulatory landscape, digital platforms, and MGA structures.
• Privacy certification (e.g., CIPP/C) preferred.
• Startup-to-scaleup mindset with ability to formalize governance without stifling innovation.
• Strong ability to translate legal risk into business-friendly advice for executives.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial agreements including SaaS licenses and partnerships.
• Support MGA and underwriting activities and manage digital automation risks.
• Ensure provincial regulatory compliance and assist GC with board materials.
• Lead privacy program, PIAs, incident response, and staff training on privacy requirements.
