What's the job?

The purpose of the Associate Financial Planner (AFP) is to support the development of skills necessary to become a Financial Planner. This role assists Financial Planners (FP) with managing lower-tier portfolios, developing new business, and providing sales and administrative support. The AFP works to expand member relationships, source new business, and support daily activities of the FP. The role emphasizes delivering a positive member experience through strong relationships and may involve community networking outside regular hours. The AFP partners with the FP to help members manage, save, grow, and protect their financial well-being, contributing to Coast Capital's profitability. Responsibilities include portfolio maintenance, member service, and referral of complex needs to specialized channels. Industry knowledge and judgment in insurance and investment referrals are essential. This position provides training and growth opportunities in financial planning, requiring PFP and CFP designations.

What you'll get to do

  • Handle administrative tasks like managing member estate and marital dissolution cases, FP messages, and maintaining member files.
  • Support FP in marketing and business development activities.
  • Schedule and confirm appointments, prepare documentation for account opening, trades, and financial planning.
  • Service members' financial needs in FP's absence, including executing trades.
  • Participate in special projects and support local initiatives.
  • Adhere to Coast Capital's vision, values, and compliance standards.
  • Process transactions based on member profiles and planning documentation.
  • Identify and refer new business opportunities.
  • Provide excellent member service, resolving issues promptly.
  • Build a pipeline for FP, support business plan achievement, and manage a portfolio generating over $500k in revenue and $60M in assets.
  • Assist with mutual fund sales and referrals to other products and services.
  • Ensure timely responses to member requests and maintain positive relationships.

Who are we looking for

  • 4-6 years of relevant experience, with at least 3 in investment portfolios and regulatory compliance.
  • Hold or be progressing towards IFIC and/or QAFP license; PFP and CFP required for aspiring Financial Planners.
  • Proficient in email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and technology systems.
  • Secondary language skills are an asset.
  • Knowledge of industry software and current market activities.
  • Good judgment and understanding of investment portfolios and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong business acumen, collaboration, communication, decision-making, self-development, results-driven, initiative, and client focus.
