Job Summary

The Associate, Emergency Management is responsible for assisting team members in crisis planning, special projects, and updating crisis response plans. The role helps design and execute emergency management exercises, conducts research, analyzes data, and identifies best practices in emergency management. Additionally, the incumbent contributes to staff training on emergency preparedness, maintains a functional Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), and prepares content for the program’s website and e-learning modules. Furthermore, the role handles daily tasks, develops corporate education materials, and promotes organizational resilience and preparedness while contributing to the community.

Major Responsibilities

  1. Assist team members with all areas and aspects of crisis planning and special projects
  2. Update and align crisis response and management plans and procedures
  3. Assist team members with the design and execution of emergency management exercises
  4. Conduct research, perform analysis, and input data to identify best and emerging practices in emergency management
  5. Participate in training sessions to educate staff across the organization on emergency preparedness and response
  6. Assist in maintaining a functional EOC, including reviewing, testing, and exercising procedures and equipment
  7. Prepare or edit content for the program’s website and e-learning modules
  8. Plan, organize, coordinate and handle daily assigned work
  9. Develop and handle new and existing corporate education materials to promote organizational resilience and preparedness

Requirements

  1. Communicate with impact and prepare a variety of documents (e.g., reports, presentations, meeting minutes, etc.)
  2. Collaborate with others and share information
  3. Understand emergency management theories, principles, and practices (e.g., business continuity planning, risk management, disaster recovery, etc.)
  4. Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel) as well as databases, email, and the internet
  5. Must have strong research and analytical skills
  6. Ability to apply discretion and sensitivity skills when working with confidential information
  7. Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  8. Must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress
  9. Fluently bilingual, both written and verbal (English, French)*

Education

Currently enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary institution (or starting in the fall semester) or have graduated within the past six months.

*Any experience/education/skills/knowledge for these above would be considered as an asset.
