As an integral member of Miles Nadal JCC, the Associate Director of Wellness and Recreation will assume exceptional leadership responsibilities for the overall vision and strategic direction and implementation of the Wellness and Rec departments. As part of the Community Building Team and Fitness Team, the Associate Director will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to deliver engaging, inclusive, and mission-driven wellness and recreational initiatives. With a member-centric approach, collaborative spirit, and revenue-generating initiatives, this is a pivotal role in ensuring programs not only meet but exceed the expectations of the MNjcc community while contributing to the overall growth and success of the organization.
Schedule Information
- Full-Time: 35 hours/week
- Evening and weekend work may be required.
- This position is an in-person role and requires working on-site.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Wellness Program Development and Implementation
- Drive and oversee program development, taking the lead in crafting and shaping strategic and innovative Wellness programs, ensuring these programs cater to the diverse needs and interests of our members and the wider community.
- Contribute creatively and strategically to ensure that programs go beyond the ordinary, offering unique and valuable experiences that resonate with our audience and meet current needs and trends in wellness.
- Effective collaboration is essential in this role. This includes working with those in both the Community Building and Fitness Departments as well as working closely with other departments in the MNjcc to foster synergy and cohesiveness in program development.
- Stay current on wellness trends by monitoring competitors, attending educational events, and networking with peers nationwide in order to stay ahead of the trending curve with program offerings.
- Strategically plan and develop programs that focus on revenue generation. Considering the financial viability of each initiative.
- Actively seek to understand the varied requirements and preferences of our members and the broader community. By actively engaging with our members, seeking their input, and staying attuned to their interests, this role is responsible for developing programs that genuinely resonate and meet their expectations.
- Implement member retention initiatives, such as feedback mechanisms, surveys, and personalized fitness plans.
- In partnership with the CXO, develop and manage the department's budget, making sound financial decisions.
- Valuing data-driven decision-making - gather, assess and report on identified metrics and trends that help inform strategy and development. Actively seek grant opportunities and partnerships to secure additional funding for wellness initiatives.
Recreational Facilities Oversight
- Design, implement, and assess a variety of recreational programs that promote physical health, mental well-being, and community engagement.
- Oversee the scheduling and coordination of gymnasium spaces, including intramural sports, open recreation, and special events.
- Collaborate with facility operations staff to ensure appropriate staffing, equipment setup, and maintenance needs are met.
- Innovate new uses of the Recreational facility to engage diverse populations and increase program participation.
- Collaborate with marketing and outreach teams to promote Recreational programs and enhance community engagement.
- Monitor and manage the Recreational Facilities budget, while identifying opportunities to drive revenue growth.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and certification standards and serve as the primary liaison for risk management in Recreational operations.
- Evaluate program effectiveness through participant feedback, data analysis, and ongoing assessments to drive continuous improvement.
- MNjcc employees are expected to uphold a high standard of behaviour. Qualifications
- Post-Secondary School Degree in related fields.
- 8+ years' experience in program development and execution and/or wellness industries
- Supervisory experience is an asset.
- Demonstrated experience in event planning and coordination.
- Excellent communication skills – both written and oral
- Computer experience (Microsoft Office suite, including Microsoft Teams, CRM software, data entry, database use, working in a networked environment).
- Clear/no relevant information from a VSC/Criminal Reference Check
- Ability to legally work in Canada/Ontario/for the MNjcc
Salary and Benefits
- Annual salary range: $70,000 - $75,000 commensurate with experience.

Working Conditions
- This position requires on-site presence, however, flexibility to work from home occasionally will be permitted.
Physical Requirements
- Able to lift and carry objects weighing 30-40 pounds (ex, boxes of supplies, children’s backpacks, etc.) Able to sit and kneel.
