Join our team! We are currently recruiting an advanced leader to join our team and work within the second largest residence system in the country, with over 6,000 residents in 12 residences.
Western's Residences are a self-funded ancillary, with annual revenues in excess of $65 million, full-time staff of 60 and more than 200 student employees. Our undergraduate residences and university-owned apartments are home to over 7,300 students from 66 different countries from around the world.
This position is located on site, in London, Ontario.
Responsibilities
This Associate Director, Residence Life & Education provides direction to the comprehensive residence life and education program for all main campus residences at Western. Reporting to the Director of Housing, the Associate Director utilizes grounded, contemporary pedagogy in residence education to develop, assess and manage a comprehensive curriculum that fosters academic success, leadership development, citizenship and involvement, health and wellness, personal growth, and inclusion, with learning outcomes aligned to meet the organizational goals and strategic objectives of Housing and the University.
As a senior member of the Housing leadership team, this role is integral in the development, execution, and evaluation of residence goals, policies, organization, and programs. These elements are at all times aligned with divisional and institutional strategic plans and are consistent with the principles and theories of transformative student learning and development.
The Associate Director provides leadership and direction to the Residence Area Managers, Residence Life Coordinators and Residence Life Staff for all on-campus residential life. This role also provides leadership to the Residence Counselling and Student Support team to foster student well-being while working collaboratively with on-campus and community resources. This role actively contributes to emergency and crisis preparedness, guides and advises all members within the residence life team in safety and security matters, departmental policies, and provides on-call support and crisis response coordination. The Associate Director plays a key leadership role in the implementation and management of departmental procedures and provides direction and interpretation on these in order to ensure that University policies and codes of conduct are understood and upheld.
About You: We are looking for a candidate with a Graduate Degree from an accredited institution in higher education administration, student affairs, counselling, or related field coupled with 8 years of progressively responsible experience in a postsecondary setting and experience providing leadership in a complex organization.
As the ideal candidate, you will demonstrate a proven track record of building and managing large, diverse teams, with knowledge of relevant human resources, privacy and health legislation. You are a change agent who thrives in a team setting, possessing excellent communication skills and sound decision-making skills. A natural relationship builder, you collaborate well with staff and students and can prioritize multiple responsibilities and changing priorities.
