The Associate Director, Development is responsible for increasing philanthropic support for the Ivey Business School by qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individual major and leadership gifts to support the School’s funding priorities. The Associate Director will manage a portfolio of approximately 70 prospective major gift donors with an annual fundraising goal of $1-$3 million. Additionally, the role provides strategic oversight for the annual and leadership giving programs, including growing membership and contributions to the Ivey Society. The role supervises two direct reports: the Manager, Annual Giving, and the Senior Development Officer, responsible for program execution, supporting reunion campaigns, and guiding volunteer engagement for the Annual Fund.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a portfolio of assigned major gift and leadership giving prospects, providing strategic and tactical guidance to meet projected gift targets. Cultivate and solicit support independently and collaboratively with senior staff and volunteers.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of the Faculty, its activities, priorities, and needs in education, research, and outreach.
- Nurture and develop long-term relationships with alumni, stakeholders, and the Ivey community.
- Research and analyze giving potential of prospects; develop tailored strategies for engagement and investment.
- Collaborate with administrative officers and faculty to identify investment opportunities and prepare proposals.
- Support volunteers in cultivating and soliciting prospects.
- Analyze data and prepare materials including proposals, correspondence, reports, and planning documents.
- Collaborate with the Stewardship team to engage in stewardship activities.
Annual and Leadership Giving Strategy & Program Management:
- Develop and implement strategies for the Annual Fund to attract unrestricted gifts and build sustainable resources.
- Manage the program budget, including financial tracking and forecasting.
- Work with the Senior Development Officer to retain and upgrade high-end donors and identify potential major gift prospects.
- Manage reunion class giving programs, coordinating with volunteers and ensuring effective communication.
Management Responsibilities:
- Supervise the Manager, Annual Giving, in executing direct marketing campaigns.
- Oversee the Senior Development Officer in managing the Ivey Society and donor portfolio.
- Evaluate and adapt the Annual Fund program regularly.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- University degree in business, communications, arts, or related field.
- Five to seven years of progressive fundraising experience, including securing major gifts and comprehensive development activities.
- Proven success in developing and closing major gifts.
- Understanding of annual fund programs and donor cycles.
