Reporting to the VP Quebec, this position is based in Montreal.

The Associate Director, Municipal Government Relations works to build and maintain productive relationships between CIJA and municipal officials, and related organizations and federations. The candidate will focus on identifying opportunities at the municipal level to advance organizational goals and align with broader regional and national priorities. The candidate will support or participate in initiatives and programs that intersect with these priorities, ensuring the organization is well-positioned to participate in and collaborate on key municipal issues.

The successful candidate will cultivate a strong network of municipal relationships and develop strategies to engage local governments on shared objectives. The candidate will also work with and provide support to the Director of Government relations and will, when appropriate, engage to support provincial GR as well.

In addition, the candidate will participate and contribute to research projects and initiatives undertaken by the organization providing support to the Director of Policy and research.

The Job

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive municipal government relations strategy.
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with municipal officials, city councils, administrators, and community organizations to promote collaboration on shared priorities.
  • Represent the organization at municipal meetings, conferences, events, and public hearings.
  • Monitor municipal policy developments as well as the Quebec national assembly and identify emerging opportunities or risks for the organization. Analyze trends and propose proactive solutions to align with policy shifts.
  • Prepare briefing materials, reports, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clear communication of municipal priorities and initiatives.
