Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site, preferably in Ottawa, and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on operational needs to serve our donors, staff, and communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending on circumstances.

About the role :

Canadian Blood Services seeks a Regular Full-time Associate Director, Corporate Planning, to join our Strategic Financial Management team. This key role will shape the organization’s financial future, supporting our mission as Canada’s Biological Lifeline.

Reporting to the Director, Strategic Financial Management, the role involves overseeing the 5-year financial plan, ensuring sustainability, and supporting strategic negotiations and decisions. Responsibilities include developing financial models, collaborating with various teams, leading long-range planning, and preparing presentations for executive and board-level stakeholders.

Success factors :

  1. Work with the Financial Reporting and Advisory Services team to develop and analyze financial models, industry trends, and scenarios supporting strategic goals.
  2. Lead cost-benefit analyses with teams and external partners to evaluate investments and initiatives, informing strategic narratives and stakeholder negotiations.
  3. Manage the annual long-range financial planning process, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy and stakeholder engagement.
  4. Coordinate with Government Relations to align messaging and ensure data-driven planning.

Desired education and skills :

  • MBA and/or CPA designation in good standing.
  • At least 10 years' experience in financial planning, strategy, or related fields, preferably in government or biological/pharmaceutical sectors.
  • Experience with health economic analysis (e.g., CADTH, CDA, CIHI).
  • Strong skills in financial modeling, forecasting, and analysis of statements.
  • Ability to communicate complex financial concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency with financial planning software and advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to build trust and collaborate across teams.

Equivalent education, training, and experience may be considered.
