The Role

The Associate Director, AML Governance, develops and executes the AML / ATF program, manages regulatory exams, and supports AML policy development. This role supports the Senior Director and Deputy CAMLO in overseeing the enterprise-wide AML / ATF program, ensuring it manages risks effectively and complies with legislation. The environment is fast-paced, requiring excellent time management across multiple projects.

Governance

  • Develop oversight programs to ensure AML / ATF controls are effective.
  • Recommend improvements to AML / ATF controls to manage ML / TF risks.
  • Create data-driven reports for senior management, the Board, and regulators.
  • Lead remediation efforts from audits and regulatory findings.
  • Manage AML / ATF compliance risks enterprise-wide.

Policies and Procedures

  • Maintain enterprise-wide AML / ATF policies and programs.
  • Support implementation and oversight of AML / ATF initiatives.
  • Update policies based on regulatory and internal changes.
  • Identify and address policy gaps, recommending remediation.
  • Assist in evaluating new products and policies for compliance risks.

Advisory and Training

  • Build relationships with business units to address AML / ATF risks.
  • Serve as escalation point for AML / ATF inquiries.
  • Provide guidance, training, and updates on AML / ATF standards.
  • Monitor AML / ATF legislation and trends, recommending actions.
  • Participate in workshops and conferences, maintaining CAMS certification.
  • Develop and deliver AML / ATF training programs.

Leadership

  • Lead a team of Compliance Officers, fostering collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Build a capable team for monitoring AML / ATF risks.
  • Promote a positive, innovative work environment.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Business, Law, or Accounting.
  • 7+ years’ experience in Canadian financial services, AML / ATF systems, and controls.
  • CAMS certification or to be certified within 12 months.
  • Minimum 4 years managerial experience.
  • Leadership skills, AML / ATF expertise, and risk management knowledge.
  • Lending or retail banking experience is an asset.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and web navigation; French is a plus.
