Job Summary

Under the direction of the Dean and, when required, in consultation with campus leadership within the College region, the Associate Dean provides day-to-day operational management of designated program areas within the school which includes the planning, organizing, staffing, and managing resources for assigned programs. This role provides a perspective and analysis of academic and educational requirements for assigned portfolios within their School ensuring effective, relevant and inclusive delivery of learning opportunities that support student success.

Specific Duties

NATURE & SCOPE :
• This role leads, plans, implements within alignment with the school’s vision and the Deans priority in providing strategic leadership in the planning, and establishing goals, priorities and procedures of their assigned school.
• This position is responsible for the day-to-day management within the assigned portfolio, including faculty and operational staff.
• The Associate Dean works consultatively with the Dean and Faculty Coordinators from assigned program areas in the strategic planning process; formulating and implementing the strategic vision for the school; and works closely with coordinators, faculty, and operational employees to operationalize the school’s strategic initiatives that supports the College’s strategic and academic plans.
• As an educational administrator, the Associate Dean is responsible for the day-to-day operational management, guidance, and direction of specific programs within the assigned School.
• The Associate Dean provides on-going leadership, academic and student-centered perspective and analysis pertinent to the academic and educational requirements, needs, and development of assigned programs.
• You will be part of a team actively engaged in contributing to and accomplishing the vision, mission, and goals of the College and in supporting the aspirations and needs of our learners.
• You will promote a positive work atmosphere by interacting and communicating in a professional manner that demonstrates mutual respect with students and colleagues.

SPECIFIC DUTIES :
• Responsible for the day-to-day management of operations within the assigned portfolio, which includes leading the recruitment, onboarding, evaluation and performance management processes for all school faculty and operational staff while promoting a culture of collaboration, inclusivity and continuous improvement. This includes providing leadership to all school faculty in collaboration with the support of local campus leadership within the College regional campuses
• Within a matrix reporting structure, works collaboratively with leaders and managers on other campuses to provide consistent direction on work functions, processes, and standards.
• Supports faculty in their professional development, teaching effectiveness, and scholarly activities. Participates in evaluation processes and assessment of instructional skills and faculty effectiveness.
• Ensures portfolio adherence to the College’s timetabling policy, procedures and deadlines.
• Ensures a deep knowledge and understanding of and analyzes enrollment trends and data to inform school planning and decision-making for program mix, sustainability and growth opportunities.
• Works with Faculty Coordinators to plan academic schedules, workloads, and other administrative requirements in program areas, and contributes to improvements in these academic processes.
• Assists the Dean in ensuring the quality and integrity of programs and academic offerings within the school; and supports the oversight the academic program review, renewal, and the assessment of program outcomes. Fosters continued development and improvement of curriculum and other educational resources in keeping with the expectations of CNC , the School, accreditation bodies, and funders to ensure program standards are consistently met.
• Meets with students to resolve issues, and when delegated by the Dean, assesses student appeals and complaints.
• Participates in the investigation and resolution of student academic and non-academic conduct issues as specified in College policies and procedures.
• Contributes to the overall leadership of CNC by anticipating, recommending, and contributing to the development of educational policies and long-term planning.
• Promotes and encourages educational approaches within a lens of diversity, inclusivity, Indigenization, and international environment.
• Engages both key college wide initiatives and relevant community consultation initiatives in collaboration with the Dean.
• Identifies new program opportunities and assists with the development of new programs and services within the school that are consistent with CNC’s strategic plan.
• Participates in the development of program plans and goals consistent with CNC’s Strategic and relevant institutional plans such as: Academic Plan, Indigenous Plan, International Plan and SEM Plan.
• Collaborates with academic partners to ensure program offerings meet student demand and market needs.
• Collaborates with Student Affairs to create an inclusive, supportive, and accessible learning environment.
• Engages in SEM Council priority initiatives and projects.
• Supports and leads various enrolment management and planning activities in support of student success.
• Monitors enrolment and retention of students within the school and devises, in consultation with faculty and Student Services, strategies for managing and enhancing both.
• Analyzes enrollment trends and data to inform decision-making and strategic planning for the school.
• Utilizes data to forecast future enrollment and adjust strategies to meet institutional targets.
• Ensures compliance with collective agreements for faculty and staff within the assigned portfolio.
• Ensures awareness and proficiency in relevant student policies.
• Ensures CNC contributions to portfolio articulation meetings and any other related committees.
• Works in consultation with the Dean to monitor budgets and ensure effective fiscal management of assigned programs.
• Represents the Dean when requested.
• Liaises with regulatory and other external partners for day-to-day management of programs.
• Establishes, monitors, and participates on various institutional committees. Chairs departmental committees as delegated by the Dean.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in a field of study related to the assigned School required; and a master’s degree in a relevant field of study strongly preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years managerial experience plus 3 years post-secondary teaching experience; a combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Robust leadership experience required with the ability to provide guidance and direction to others.
• In depth knowledge and experience of the post-secondary sector.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, problem solving, and analytical skills.
• Knowledge of the roles of community colleges as well as a comprehensive understanding of the philosophy of adult learning models.
• Demonstrated ability to apply educational approaches within an inclusive, Indigenized, and internationalized community college context.
• A proven ability to articulate and implement educational leadership and management philosophies.
• Demonstrated experience in planning and implementing long-range strategies based on learner needs, institutional priorities, and labour market requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to manage all elements of the employee life cycle.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate and cooperate with others.
• Evidence based decision-making and excellent judgement when balancing competing demands.

School specific Credentials:
• School of Health – Must have or be eligible for a current BC licensure/ registration in a health discipline within the school.
