The Associate Dean is a member of the decanal administrative team supporting the programs, activities, and work of the Dean in the Faculty of Health and Human Services.
Under the direction of the Dean, and working with faculty, staff, and community committees, the Associate Dean is accountable for functional tasks and responsibility areas identified by the Dean, including but not limited to, academic planning and implementation, budget development and monitoring, program development, approval, review processes, and management functions that facilitate successful relationships with faculty, staff, communities, and college administration. The Associate Dean also assists the Dean and Department Chairs in developing new initiatives for students and faculty.
Student and program success is fostered through the support provided by the Associate Dean, which involves working with other institutional areas including Student Affairs to initiate new strategies for student engagement and manage student concerns, complaints, and appeals as delegated by the Dean.

Duties & Responsibilities
1. Educational Leadership and Management
- Provides educational and administrative leadership to realize the Faculty's mission, vision, and values, engaging in proactive consultation and collaboration to meet strategic and operational goals, and promoting the value of each program.
- Supports student satisfaction, develops new engagement strategies, and manages student concerns and complaints.
- Ensures compliance with college policies regarding student discipline, supporting investigations and sanctions, and advising the Dean on suspension and expulsion cases.
- Supports the Dean and acts as Dean when required, including chairing committees and participating in senior leadership planning.
- Oversees external program recognition, accreditation, and approval processes.
- Supports program reviews and educational policy development.
- Manages processes for cost recovery programming and assists with budget development.
- Manages capital budgets for labs and renovations in consultation with staff and faculty.
- Supports faculty and Chairs in admissions, timetabling, and space utilization.
- Works with the Dean and Chairs on strategic planning and organizational communication.
- Initiates and supports teaching excellence programs and interdepartmental collaboration.
- Assists in planning and implementing new programs, including proposal and budget writing.
- Supports international education initiatives and represents the Dean and Faculty as needed.
2. Management of Human Resources
- Encourages teamwork, supports faculty and staff, and promotes an innovative, learner-centered environment.
- Participates in faculty recruitment and onboarding processes.
- Supports faculty and staff development and supervision in collaboration with the Dean and Chairs.
3. Internal Liaison
- Maintains effective relationships with Chairs, faculty, advisory committees, and internal college groups to inform programming and promote initiatives.
- Collaborates with internal and external groups to plan and evaluate activities that support faculty goals and scholarly work.
4. Financial Management
- Develops feasibility studies for new programs, ensuring stakeholder consultation.
- Monitors enrollments and makes recommendations for program viability and sustainability.
- Prepares business cases for cost-recovery initiatives to ensure quality and financial viability.
Required Education & Experience
- Master’s degree in a relevant discipline.
- At least five years of progressive academic leadership in the Canadian post-secondary sector, with experience in teaching or educational development within the last 10 years, preferably in Health and Human Services.
- Experience in proposal writing, research activities, budgeting, and contract management.
- Experience in program and curriculum development within a post-secondary context.
- Doctoral degree preferred.
