Job summary

Aplin is partnering with a long-standing Edmonton client to recruit a Corporate/Commercial Associate (4-6 years call). The role provides exposure to sophisticated commercial transactions and major development projects across Alberta, with mentorship and increasing autonomy as your practice grows.

You will work with an entrepreneurial legal team advising a diverse client base on real estate, lending, and corporate matters.

Qualifications

  • 4-6 years of post-call experience in corporate/commercial law.
  • Member in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta, or eligible for immediate membership.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, and client management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead with acquisitions, dispositions, leasing, and property development transactions in Commercial Real Estate & Development.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial lending and financing documents in Lending & Finance.
  • Draft and negotiate commercial agreements, shareholder agreements, corporate reorganizations, and business contracts in Corporate & Commercial Transactions.
  • Independently manage files from inception through closing with strong deadline and priority management.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships and contribute to long-term growth of the practice.

Aplin is pleased to be partnering with one of our long-standing and highly respected clients in the Edmonton market to recruit a talented Corporate/Commercial Associate (4-6 year call) to join their growing team.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an ambitious lawyer looking to take the next step in their career while gaining exposure to sophisticated commercial transactions and high-profile development projects across Alberta.

The successful candidate will join a collaborative and entrepreneurial legal team that advises a diverse client base on a broad range of commercial matters. The practice includes significant exposure to commercial real estate, property development, lending and finance transactions, corporate reorganizations, and complex commercial agreements.

This role offers a unique balance of mentorship and autonomy. You will work alongside experienced partners on large, sophisticated transactions while also managing your own files and client relationships. As your practice develops, you will have the opportunity to take increasing ownership of major transactions and play a meaningful role in the continued growth of the practice.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Real Estate & Development

  • Lead and assist with acquisitions, dispositions, commercial leasing matters, and property development transactions.
  • Support clients through all stages of development projects, from acquisition through completion.

Lending & Finance

  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial lending and financing documentation.
  • Advise both borrowers and lenders on secured financing transactions.

Corporate & Commercial Transactions

  • Draft and negotiate commercial agreements, shareholder agreements, corporate reorganizations, and general business contracts.
  • Provide strategic legal advice on a broad range of commercial matters.

Matter Management

  • Independently manage files from inception through closing.
  • Deliver high-quality work while effectively managing deadlines and competing priorities.

Client Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through practical, business-focused legal advice.
  • Contribute to client retention and long-term growth of the practice.
Qualifications
  • Member in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta, or eligible for immediate membership.
  • 4-6 years of post-call experience in corporate/commercial law.
  • Strong experience in one or more of:
    • Commercial real estate
    • Property development
    • Commercial lending and finance
    • Corporate/commercial transactions
  • Proven ability to manage files independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, and client management skills.
  • Collaborative and team-oriented approach to practice.
