About The GovLab.ai
We transform the way you think about applied AI. Teams are structured around projects for the public sector, guided by the Project Delivery Manager, Product Owner, and Senior machine learning developers, to provide working models to support informed strategic decision-making around the use of key AI technologies in the public sector.
This would be a 4-month paid contract starting September 2025 and ending in December 2025. Additionally, this opportunity may be extended to 8 or 12 months; please indicate in your application if these options interest you.

Job Role
As an Associate Business Solutions Consultant, you will collaborate with our Public Sector Partners, including Service Alberta, to identify high-value business problems that can be addressed with AI or machine learning. Your focus will be on defining and communicating the business impact of your AI/ML use case to senior government stakeholders, along with organizational change management and adoption planning. Our mission is to set a global example of transforming the public sector through applied AI and to foster growth in AI/ML skills in Alberta and worldwide.
During the 4-month program, you will be placed on a team working on specific use cases identified by our partners. You will immerse yourself in complex workflows to understand data and business nuances that influence AI/ML product design. Your role involves synthesizing information into a clear understanding of the business problem, advocating for customer needs, and working across disciplines to define feasible AI/ML solutions.
You will receive resources and mentorship to support your growth. Teams are led by Project Delivery Managers and Product Owners using AltaML methodology to develop working models and guide implementation recommendations. Our goal is to prepare you for future employment with us after your internship.
Office as a Resource & Participating Universities: This role is funded through Mitacs and requires candidates to meet eligibility criteria. Open to students enrolled at U of Alberta, U of Calgary (Masters only), Mount Royal U, U Waterloo, U of Toronto, or Queens U. Based in Canada, occasional work from Edmonton, Calgary, Toronto, or Waterloo offices is expected. Please contact us if you have questions about eligibility.
