Job description

ADP Authorizer (Casual)

POSITION TITLE: ADP Authorizer (OT or PT) - Contractor

PROGRAM: Long Term Care Rehabilitation Services

LOCATION: Ottawa and surrounding area, Scarborough and St Catherines


SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Director, Long Term Care Rehabilitation Services, the ADP Authorizer is responsible for working within a multidisciplinary team providing assessments and therapeutic interventions for Residents referred for Assistive Devices Program (ADP).


STANDARDS OF PRACTICE

BiM Health Occupational Therapists and/or Physiotherapists will comply with the Standards as outlined by:

  1. College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario and/or College of Physiotherapists
  2. Ministry of Long Term Care
  3. Accreditation Canada

Therapists will adhere to Policies & Procedures of BiM Health and LTC Home.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Accept referrals for service
  2. Conduct ADP Assessments as per referrals
  3. Provide assessments and access funding under the Assistive Devices Program (ADP) to meet equipment needs, in compliance with all ADP required activities and documentation, as well as funding guidelines
  4. Utilize evidence-based practice and best practice, along with outcome measures to guide clinical decision making
  5. Implement, monitor, and modify treatment to achieve Resident/Family goals in the areas of seating and positioning, activities of daily living, equipment use and safety, and strategies to improve function
  6. Educate Residents and Families, using sensitive and simple language
  7. Work with the LTC Home team for solutions following a change in function, to ensure high quality care and optimal safety
  8. Communicate effectively with the Resident/Family and LTC Home team regarding Care Plans, functional progress, and rehab equipment
  9. Document clinical findings and progress in the PointClickCare digital platform
  10. Prepare documentation and reports according to College and organizational standards
  11. Participate in continuous quality improvement program, including measurable outcomes, satisfaction feedback, and quality improvement planning
  12. As requested, provide in-house staff education sessions on topics such as adaptive equipment for mobility, as well as ergonomic set-up for staff injury prevention
  13. Maintain confidentiality pertaining to any information related to the Long Term Care Home, BiM Health Services Limited Partnership, and Resident information

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Minimum Qualifications
  2. B.Sc. Degree in Occupational Therapy and/or B.Sc. Degree in Physiotherapy
  3. Registrant in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario and/or College of Physiotherapists of Ontario
  4. Certified Assistive Devices Program (ADP) Authorizer
  5. Professional liability insurance
  6. Completion of satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) upon hire
  7. Up-to-date on required vaccinations, including influenza vaccine (or commitment to take anti-viral medications), MMR, DTaP, varicella, TB skin test

Required Skills and Attributes

  1. Adherence to code of ethics and standards of practice as defined by the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario and/or College of Physiotherapists of Ontario
  2. Knowledge/experience in evidence-based musculoskeletal and neurological practice, with a strong emphasis on improving functional outcomes
  3. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, clinical reasoning, and problem solving skills
  4. Superior communication skills, both written and verbal
  5. Flexible and adaptable to changing demands and schedules
  6. Caring and compassionate in all interactions with Residents and Families

Desirable Skills and Experience

Experience

  1. Working with individuals with musculoskeletal and neurological conditions, including cognitive rehabilitation
  2. Providing rehabilitation for the geriatric/frail elderly population in an integrated care setting, preferably in Long-Term Care Homes, with a Resident-centred approach
