Job summary

The Ontario Public Service is seeking a Trial Court Administrative Assistant on a 12-month temporary contract in Ottawa to support scheduling across criminal, family, civil courts.

You will coordinate lists, process documents, liaise with judges and counsel, and help prepare statistical information while working in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Ontario and Superior Courts rules and legal terminology.
  • Ability to coordinate scheduling and court sittings.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, databases, email.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Trial Coordinator in maintaining court lists using scheduling practices.
  • Process documents and orders; liaise with Trial Coordinators, judiciary, counsel, other staff, and the public regarding scheduling.
  • Identify issues that may affect the schedule and inform Trial Coordinators.
  • Assist in preparing statistical information.

  • identifying and bringing issues that may affect the schedule to the attention of the Trial Coordinator(s)
  • assisting in the preparation of statistical information
What you bring to the team
Technical skills:
  • You have knowledge of the functions and rules of the Ontario and Superior Courts of Justice, relevant legislation and legal terminology
Analytical and problem solving skills:
  • You have judgement and problem solving skills
  • You have the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • You possess analytical skills to assist with the compilation of statistical data
Communication and organizational skills

You have:

  • organizational, coordination and planning skills to assist with the scheduling of court sittings
  • the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities
  • communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with tact and diplomacy with judges, staff, counsel and the public
Computer skills:
  • You are proficient with computer applications (word processing, presentations, spreadsheets, databases, email, Internet and management information systems)
