Job Summary

The Assistant Track Supervisor is responsible for leading the operations of an assigned territory involving track inspection and repairs. The role oversees replacing rails, ties, switches, and ballasts. Additionally, it provides daily support to the Track Supervisor.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Lead engineering operations as outlined in CN’s operating plan.
  2. Supervise and lead activities of track gangs, track employees, and hi-rail operations.
  3. Handle engineering operations, ensuring compliance with safe work procedures, Transport Canada guidelines, and CN standards, policies, and regulations.
  4. Lead and guide team members with clear direction, coaching, and performance monitoring.
  5. Apply collective agreements and company policies, conduct investigations, recommend corrective actions, and respond to grievances.
  6. Oversee budgets and workforce productivity within CN policies and the Five Guiding Principles.
  7. Communicate track condition and daily production information to senior management for adjustments.
  8. Ensure track safety through regulatory inspections and monitor conditions via the Track Inspection System (TIS).
  9. Follow up on reported track issues to ensure compliance with standards.
  10. Participate in activities related to derailments and service disruptions, working with Transportation and Mechanical teams to establish causes and prevent future issues.
  11. Perform safety audits and conduct safety engagements with the workforce.
  12. Plan, schedule, and perform track repairs and maintenance.
  13. Respond to emergencies promptly.
Working Conditions

This role involves working in both office settings and outdoors under various weather conditions, with irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays. It requires regular travel (up to 50%) across the territory, sometimes without notice. The position demands meeting tight deadlines, handling stress, and responding to emergencies, including lifting up to 70 lbs.

Requirements
Experience
  • 3 to 5 years in safety compliance.
  • Experience in troubleshooting, problem-solving, and working in safety or regulatory environments.
  • Budget management and labor relations experience, including unionized workforce supervision, are assets.
Education/Certification/Designation
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Bachelor’s Degree (asset).
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Certified in Railroad Operating Signals (asset).
