Assistant TrackForeman

Job Summary

The Assistant Track Maintenance Foremen is responsible for themaintenance of track components. The position leads crews to ensure thatfixtures on the railroad work properly. The incumbent participates ininspecting, repairing, and replacing rails, ties, switches, and ballast.

Major Responsibilities

  • Inspect and maintain trackstructure and right-of-way to CN’s specifications
  • Supervise and develop trackforces to ensure quality maintenance and safe work performance
  • Inspect track work oncompletion and approve track for service
  • Maintain train operatingrestrictions in alignment with track standards
  • Implement safety directives
  • Assist in the development ofsafety programs and goals
  • Remove and replace defectiveties, rails spikes, and anchors
  • Correct deviations in tracksurface, alignment, and gauge
  • Install and repair streetand railroad crossings
  • Assist in the replacementand repair of items such as power-operated switches and insulated joints
  • Help to unload ballast aswell as unload and distribute track material
  • Sort used track material forloading, which may be loaded by hand
  • Clear brush, vegetation,snow, and litter from railroad right-of-way
  • Establish and maintaindrainage
  • Clean up after workcompletion
  • Comply with track safetystandards, Operating Rules, and Safe work procedures
  • Complete work, materialinventory, and inspections reports

Working Conditions

  • Must be available to workshifts, away from home on various work cycles, and occasional overtime
  • Ability to work outdoors invarious types of weather and environmental conditions, involving physicalwork
  • Must be able to performrepetitive physical activities
  • Ability to lift and carry 50pounds (22 kg) frequently and up to 70 pounds (32 kg) occasionally
  • Must have good eye-handcoordination and grasping

Requirements

  • Experience in similarworking conditions
  • High School Diploma orequivalent General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite(Excel, PowerPoint, and Word)

Training

Upon hiring, the position attends formal and on-the-job training. Theincumbent is required to complete the training program successfully. Theposition receives classroom training over a period of 4 weeks at 40 hours perweek. The training is primarily on health and safety rules and basic machineoperator procedures. Successful completion of the classroom and on-the-jobtraining is mandatory to continue employment.

This position is a unionized position. As such, pay and benefits aregoverned by the applicable collective agreement.
