Medicine Hat Public School Division Assistant to Chef Medicine Hat High School

Culinary Program

Position Overview

Medicine Hat High School (Grades 10–12) is hiring a proactive Assistant to the Chef to support culinary operations. Experience in kitchen and culinary is ESSENTIAL, There will also be student development, and mentorship. This position works directly alongside Chef Jamie Moore, Head of Food Services, and includes working with students with diverse learning needs who are gaining experience in the workplace, RAP students, and volunteer work experience students earning credits toward graduation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Open and close the kitchen in accordance with health and safety standards.
  • Supervise kitchen staff and student workers during breakfast and lunch service.
  • Assist in creating and executing daily menus and specials.
  • Support the mentorship and training of students with diverse learning needs who are gaining experience in the workplace, RAP students, and volunteer work experience students.
  • Ensure a supportive, clean, and efficient kitchen environment.
  • Assist with school catering and event services as needed.
  • Collaborate with Crescent Heights High School when cross-campus support is required.

Qualifications:

Preference will be given to applicants with the following Qualifications:

  • Background in food service or hospitality required (no certification required).
  • Comfortable mentoring high school students with a variety of learning needs.
  • Organized and proactive in menu planning and kitchen flow.
  • Able to support and train RAP and volunteer student staff effectively.
  • Flexible schedule to meet school demands and special functions.
  • Alberta Section 31 Food Service and Hygiene course complete or in progress.
  • Understanding of food allergies and modified diets.
  • Excellent people skills
