Job summary

YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka is hiring an Assistant Teacher Float to support early childhood programs across multiple locations in Ontario. This full-time role requires a valid driver’s license, first aid/ CPR, vulnerable sector check, and the ability to work at varied sites with interests in play-based learning.

You will assist with personal care, supervise groups of children, and implement age-appropriate activities while maintaining open communication with families and staff.

Qualifications

• Minimum 18 years of age.
• Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable personal vehicle; must travel to multiple locations.
• Current Standard/Intermediate First Aid and CPR (Level C) or certification within first 90 days.
• Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check.
• Up-to-date immunizations or equivalent per local health guidelines.
• Access to reliable transportation to all locations within the community.
• Availability Monday to Friday, 30-40 hours per week, 7:00am–6:00pm, with split-shifts.
• Flexibility to work at different locations and adapt to daily schedule changes.
• Passion for working with children and providing quality play-based learning.
• Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with families, staff and volunteers.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 20 kg (44 lbs.), and participate in physical activities.
• Ability to work outdoors for at least 2 hours daily year-round, in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Provide personal care to children including toileting/diaper changes, first aid, medications, and monitoring dietary needs and allergies.
• Supervise groups of up to 15 children and engage with them in a safe, supportive manner.
• Plan and implement play-based learning aligned with YMCA Curriculum.
• Maintain positive, professional communication with families, staff and volunteers.
• Provide an inclusive environment supporting all children, including those with additional needs.
• Demonstrate alignment with our Mission, Vision and Values.
• Adhere to work schedule to maintain ratios and notify supervisor of changes.
• Be flexible with routines and schedules.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

In this role, you will:

• Provide personal care to children, including but not limited to toileting/diaper changing, providing first aid, administering medication, monitoring dietary, allergies & medical conditions
• Actively engage with children and always ensure supervision and safety of children in a group setting of up to 15 children independently
• Plan and implement play-based learning in accordance with YMCA Curriculum
• Ensure positive, professional communication with families, staff and volunteers on an ongoing basis
• Provide an inclusive environment, supporting the needs of all children, including those with exceptional behaviours and additional needs
• Demonstrate appropriate behaviours in line with our Mission, Vision and Values
• Adhere to work schedule to ensure program stays within ratio and provide adequate notice to supervisor regarding unexpected scheduling changes
• Demonstrate flexibility with routines and schedules
• Other duties as assigned

For this role, you bring:

• Minimum 18 years of age

• Current Standard/Intermediate First Aid and CPR (Level C) certification OR completion of certification within first 90 days of employment

• Up-to-date immunizations or equivalent in accordance with local public health and Child Care Early Years Act
• Access to reliable transportation that can get you to all locations within the community in a timely manner
• Availability requirements: Monday to Friday, 30-40 hours per week, between the hours of 7:00am & 6:00pm, including split-shifts
• Flexibility to work at different locations, with changes to schedule on a daily basis as needed
• Passion for working with children and providing quality play-based learning
• Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills with families, staff and volunteers
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time, lift up to 20 kg (44 lbs.), and participate in physical activities
• Ability to work outdoors for at least 2 hours daily year-round, in all weather conditions
