Job summary

Family Day Care Services in Toronto is seeking an Assistant Teacher for a 6-month contract to support an Early Learning and Development program for children aged 0-12, in coordination with ECE teachers, following the CCEYA and local guidelines.

The role requires previous child care experience, strong communication, planning, assessment, and dedication to inclusive practices; shift is Monday to Friday, 7 am–6 pm, with the High/Scope approach and Hanen program.

Qualifications

• Previous experience with children in a child care centre or educational setting.
• Knowledge of best practices in the early learning and childcare sector.
• Well-developed skills in leadership, communication, organization, assessment, teamwork, confidentiality, commitment and accountability, initiative and creativity.
• Awareness of diversity and social inclusion.

Responsibilities

• Support the implementation of High/Scope educational approach and Hanen Learning Language program.
• Assist E.C.E. in creating program plans reflecting children’s interests and diverse needs.
• Participate in short and long-term planning and evaluation activities.
• Assist E.C.E. in observation and assessment of children’s progress and behavior to ensure program meets needs.
• Assist E.C.E. in providing Individual program plans for children with special needs.
• Demonstrate empathy, sensitivity and support to the family unit.
• Communicate respectfully with children, parents, colleagues, managers, students and volunteers.
• Support, comfort and encourage children experiencing difficulties and help them understand and manage feelings.
• Ensure activity areas are maintained and safe; comply with OH&S standards.
