Bridges and Highway Structures is looking to fill two (2) Assistant Structures Inspector positions in our Winnipeg office.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5F driver's licence without restrictions.
  • Must be able to work in an outdoor rough terrain environment in both winter and summer in extreme temperatures, and around hazards such as construction equipment, roadway traffic, inside fabrication plants, loud noises, dust, moving equipment, slip-trip-fall risks, insects, vegetation and sharp objects.
  • Must be able to travel frequently to work site within the province by ground and/or air transportation.
  • Must be able to perform the duties of the position such as operating hand/power tools, bending/lifting up to 50 pounds, carrying/twisting, and wearing personal protective equipment.
  • Must be able to work extended hours and periods of time as required.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Completion of a Civil Engineering Technology Diploma from an approved institute of technology (2025 Civil Technology expected graduates may also be considered) or Civil Technician Certificate or combination of training and experience as it relates to structure construction, inspection and maintenance.
  • Experience with surveying, testing techniques, equipment, and basic laboratory practices.
  • Experience in interpreting engineering drawings and specifications; performing math calculations and keeping accurate records.
  • Knowledge and understanding of bridge construction specifications, standards, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Occupational, Safety, Health and Risk Management policies and procedures.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Strong Interpersonal skills.
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to prepare clear and accurate reports, complete daily diaries, field notes, and work sheets.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.

Desired:

  • Experience in concrete testing (Level 1 Concrete Inspection - American Concrete Institute (ACI)).

Duties:

The Assistant Structures Inspector reports to the Structures Project Engineer or the Inspection Engineer and receives technical Lead Hand direction from the Structures Inspector or Senior Structures Inspector. The Assistant Structures Inspector performs technical and engineering related inspection work while adhering to Department standards, specifications, policies and procedures. The Assistant Structures Inspector will perform various engineering related functions related to construction and maintenance inspection duties and inspections of existing structures for condition assessment. The Assistant Structures Inspector will primarily perform site inspection duties on minor construction sites and assist on major construction sites.
