Job Title: Assistant Store Manager – Full-time

We’re currently looking for a dedicated, hands-on Assistant Store Manager to join our leadership team at our Chemainus location.

About the Role:

As Assistant Store Manager, you’ll play a vital role in supporting daily store operations, leading by example, and helping create a positive and productive work environment for both staff and customers. You’ll work alongside the Store Manager and ownership group to ensure that store goals are met, standards are upheld, and our people are supported.

This is a dynamic and highly visible role that balances leadership, collaboration, problem-solving, and customer service. You’ll wear many hats—coach, organizer, decision-maker, motivator—and help keep the store running smoothly day in and day out.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Store Manager in day-to-day operations and ensure smooth store functioning.
  • Lead by example on the floor, offering support, coaching, and hands-on problem solving.
  • Ensure a welcoming, clean, and safe environment for customers and team members.
  • Assist with budgeting, sales tracking, and promotional planning to meet business goals.
  • Help oversee inventory management, ordering, merchandising, and stock levels.
  • Train, mentor, and onboard new staff; contribute to scheduling and performance management.
  • Monitor customer service standards and help resolve escalated concerns professionally.
  • Analyze operational data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and company policies.

About You:

  • Minimum 4 years of progressive experience in grocery or retail leadership roles.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with a hands-on, approachable style.
  • Detail-oriented with solid problem-solving and organizational abilities.
  • Comfortable managing inventory, scheduling, and store systems (POS, ordering, etc.).
  • Passionate about people—both customers and colleagues—and building positive team culture.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs, standing/walking for extended periods, and performing tasks that involve bending, reaching, and kneeling.
