Job description

At MATT & NAT, our store management teams set the tone and enable their teams to deliver an exceptional experience to all of our customers. We are looking for a qualified Assistant Store Manager who will assume the role of Manager in the absence of the Store Manager and support store strategies. Your role will be to help generate profitable sales growth through all facets of your store; operations, visual presentation, and the management and development of your team. The ideal candidate is an excellent communicator and natural born leader who is able to coach and inspire team members to achieve their individual and store goals and perform at their best.

Responsibilities

You will participate in the management of your store's operations:

  1. Establish a customer-centric mindset in the store to ensure the highest level of customer experience.
  2. Ensure that sales targets are met in order to meet company objectives.
  3. Ensure understanding of and compliance with company policies and procedures.
  4. Perform all financial activities effectively and in accordance with company standards, including handling and reporting of cash and merchandise.
  5. Verify hours worked and payroll used, ensuring accuracy and timely and correct entry.
  6. Communicate performance, company strategy, and relevant business activities to the team.
  7. Ensure that opening and closing tasks are performed correctly.
  8. Process purchases, exchanges, and returns of merchandise at the POS (point of sale).
  9. Ensure that all inbound and outbound deliveries are processed correctly.
  10. Ensure that all returns and damages are handled in accordance with company policies.
  11. Protect your store funds and assets by complying with and enforcing all loss prevention policies, procedures and controls, in addition to reporting any concerns or incidents to the Store Manager.
  12. Prepare and execute physical inventories, ensuring that all guidelines are followed accurately.
  13. Maintain regular and timely communication with the management team regarding any aspect of your store.
  14. Maintain safety requirements to ensure a safe working and shopping environment.
  15. Support any in-store events so that they lead to the achievement of goals.
  16. Perform any other relevant duties as required.

You will participate in the maintenance of the visual presentation of your store:

  1. Maintain all standards of visual merchandise presentation, guidelines, promotions, and general cleanliness and organization of the sales floor and backroom.
  2. Ensure that the visual presentation of merchandise is in accordance with company standards and guidelines.
  3. Execute and update the store layout according to the planograms.
  4. Ensure that the sales floor is always adequately stocked with properly displayed items.

You will participate in the management and development of your team:

  1. Supervise team members by creating a positive and harmonious work environment and promoting cooperation within the team.
  2. Actively participate in recruiting; identify, interview, and hire talent.
  3. Ensure the successful integration of new recruits.
  4. Motivate your team to achieve and maintain high levels of performance and quality through training, coaching, and frequent feedback.
  5. Ensure all team members complete training requirements as per company guidelines.
  6. Evaluate team performance, identify and develop talent.
  7. Communicate any concerns or issues of team members to the Store Manager.
Qualifications
  1. High school diploma.
  2. 2+ years of retail management experience.
  3. Proof of having increased sales and profits and of having trained and developed a team in a previous job.
  4. Experience in the fashion retail industry is an asset.
  5. Experience in visual merchandise presentation is an asset.
  6. Familiarity with reading and analyzing key performance indicators (KPIs).
  7. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  8. Exceptional communication skills in English, both written and oral.
  9. Knowledge of the MATT & NAT brand, the company's values, and an understanding of our vegan beliefs.
  10. Ability to move or lift boxes and equipment in the warehouse.
  11. Ability to stand for a long time.
  12. Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and some holidays.
