Job description

Traine Construction and Development (Traine) is currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Assistant Site Superintendent to join our exciting organization! As a key member of our team, you will be working under the direction and mentorship of the Site Superintendent to manage and supervise all construction activities on the worksite, assigning required work and applying the necessary resources to ensure the completion of that work. This position, alongside the Site Superintendent, is responsible for leading and managing all on-site construction personnel and enforcing all required safety and work regulation policies.

This is a construction site-based position at our new project in St. Catharines, Ontario.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing and leading all on site activities with a focus on safety, timeliness, and efficiency
  • Help manage site flow of information: RFIs/ ASIs/ SSIs/ ESIs/ MSIs/ etc.
  • Collaborate with superintendent, project manager, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure project specifications are met
  • Liaise with all City Officials and create strong working relationships
  • Co-chair weekly trade meetings, assist with monthly site meetings with the development team, PMs, Directors, and trade partners as necessary
  • Collaborate with Superintendent and PM to create, monitor and maintain the project construction schedule on a regular basis
  • Create and update lookahead schedules and monitor sub trades to comply and maintain productivity daily and weekly
  • Review and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and construction documents and able to identify conflicts and issues in advance
  • Coordinate, supervise and schedule trade partners, suppliers, and vendors
  • Review on-site work to confirm that project is being built as per drawings, specifications, code and ensure that all finishes are to Traine and industry standards by conducting regular site walkthroughs to monitor progress and quality of work
  • Manage, direct, and mentor Traine field staff and ensure they have the proper tools, materials and instructions to complete their tasks
  • Maintain an organized, clean and efficient multifamily job site, while ensuring and enforcing compliance with all safety policies and procedures
  • Responsible for field documentation such as daily logs, progress photos, overseeing daily safety inspections, and other required reports
  • Order materials and schedule inspections as necessary; includes coordinating offsite utilities and review with the applicable authority
  • Anticipate and overcome challenges throughout the course of the project with positive and creative solutions with a never-give-up attitude. Investigate and resolve any issues that arise and mediate issues as required
  • Oversee and manage construction projects full circle from excavation to building handover

Qualifications And Experience

  • Wood frame multi-family 4-6 story on concrete parkade experience is required
  • Gold Seal Certification is considered a strong asset (or in the process of achieving your Gold Seal Certification)
  • Red Seal Ticket in Carpentry considered an asset
  • First Aid ticket considered an asset
  • Possess a valid Driver’s License, no restrictions
  • Experience on multi building projects with phased occupancy
  • Ability to lead and evaluate trade partner performance is essential
  • Ability to read plans, specifications, details, sections, elevations, schematics, shop drawings and all other documentation
  • Strong management, delegation, planning and leadership skills
  • Attention to detail and a safety-first mindset
  • Proficient with MS project, Word, Excel, Bluebeam and Procore
  • Advanced knowledge of various construction disciplines, safety regulations, scheduling, cost control, quality control, engineering drawings and other documents
  • Personable and professional with trade partners, stakeholders, consultants and employees
  • Successful completion of a background check is required

Working Conditions

  • Availability 24/7 may be required
  • Physical ability to lift up to 75-pounds repeatedly throughout the day
  • Travel to site and off-site locations will be required
  • Overtime and weekends as required
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Hazards associated with the trade
  • Work both indoors and outdoors through all weather conditions in all seasons
